Wolves, as stated before, will not have an inferiority complex coming into this match. In fact, it would be the Red Devils that would. They have done well against this side and are already trouncing sides in Europe on the way to the Europa League group stages. They got themselves a good point lat weekend on the road to Leicester City in their opener, showing that they can compete in tough environments. It won’t be easy for them to repeat last season’s successes, but they have the tools to do so or get pretty close.
Manchester United are currently experiencing a big upswing having annihilated Chelsea last weekend 4-0. The score does suggest the Red Devils dominated, and they did… to a degree. But they weren’t as good as the Blues before the goal came. When that happened, they were off and running, using their pace to counter. They were solid in defence, too, and they now look like they have a stable, consistent lineup to call upon. With that, the sky is the limit for them, as long as they can maintain the happiness of their midfield men.
Wolves’ double chance is at 8/13 via Ladbrokes.
A draw at both halves can be had at Betfair for 4.5.
Even in the middle of a European campaign, Wolves will not be overawed in the slightest. They have taken down United before, and it’s very possible they can do so again. They grab a point this time to stop their mini streak of victories.
Nuno Espirito Santo, as he seems to have always had since they got to the Premier League, looks set to once again have a full side to pick from for this second fixture of the season. He didn’t even have to play most of his regulars, which is a rare thing for him to do on Thursday, so this will be a fresh side ready to go against the Red Devils.
Both times last season that United took the trek to Molyneux, they lost 2-1 and on both occasions Diogo Jota scored to help Wolves grab that win. Jota isn’t always on the mark, but when he is he’s one of the toughest players to thwart in the entire division. Alongside him, the ever-present Raul Jimenez remains as the man to watch. The Mexican international is so good at pressing, at passing the ball, and running in behind to create yards of space for teammates. It’s because of that, and his finishing, that he’s been one of the finest signings in recent PL history.
Wolves have a draw and four wins in their last five matches:
4-0 home win vs Pyunik (UEL)
0-0 draw at Leicester
0-4 win at Pyunik (UEL)
1-4 win vs Crusaders (UEL)
2-0 home win vs Crusaders (UEL)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has injury issues with Tim Fosu-Mensah and Eric Bailly, but he isn’t likely to want to make many alterations given the way his side were able to play last weekend.
You can talk about Paul Pogba not trying hard enough until you are blue in the face, but the man is a World Cup winner and can change a game in the blink of an eye. Last Sunday, he had done little but provided two assists in the span of 14 minutes to help them ease out to a huge 4-0 lead. Marcus Rashford is another man that played very well, getting things started by scoring from the spot and then adding another in the second half to make it 3-0. If he can play this way, it’ll be a long, hard season opposition defences.
