Wigan have only won five of their previous 24 matches against Bristol City, drawing seven and losing 12 of the others. Their only recent matches were during the 2016-17 season, however, when Bristol City won both games. Hordor Magnusson and Bobby Reid scored late in a 2-1 win at Ashton Gate and Aden Flint grabbed the late winner at the DW Stadium.

Bristol City’s resurgent form and four-match winning run was ended by West Brom in mid-week but they are still in good shape – particularly up front, with Famara Diedhiou continuing his recovery from injury with his second goal in three games.
Lee Johnson’s side still have a number of injury concerns to contend with, however – notably Korey Smith, Bailey Wright and goalkeeper Frank Fielding.
Wigan, on the other hand, welcomed Will Grigg and Michael Jacobs back to the starting line-up in mid-week, and had the bonus of Sam Morsy’s ban being overturned.
Morsy’s goal set them on their way to victory against Hull and they remain well placed in the league table as a result – their unbeaten home form playing a big part in that.
That home form has seen them claim three wins and a draw at the DW Stadium this season, while they have not lost there since March.
The Latics are difficult to beat on home soil, and having got back to winning ways are capable of much more than that too.
Despite a poor record in this fixture, this is Wigan’s chance to set the record straight a little – they are favourites, and can use their home advantage to live up to that.

Though they have fixed their early-season defensive woes, however, they still look prone to conceding. Famara Diedhiou is back in the goals for Bristol City, and both teams to score has been set at 5/7 with 10Bet.

Wigan’s good home record makes them favourites to beat Bristol City and continue their strong start to the season.
Sam Morsy’s ludicrous red card against Brentford was rescinded, leaving the Egypt international free to score the opener in Wigan’s win against Hull last time out. Will Grigg returned to the starting line-up after dropping to the bench in the previous game, while Michael Jacobs also returned to the starting line-up.
Will Grigg – Three goals so far this season, and his form for the Latics has seen him earn a Northern Ireland recall.
Nick Powell – Former Manchester United man has scored three goals this season and set up a further four to prove his increasing importance to this team.
Sam Morsy – Highlighted his importance by scoring the opening goal against Hull last time out, having had his red card in the previous game rescinded.
Wigan have won three of their last five matches but lost the two in between – with both defeats coming away from home. They beat Stoke 3-0, with Will Grigg netting twice, but their two away games have since have ended in a 1-0 defeat to QPR and 2-0 loss to Brentford. At home, however, James Vaughan’s goal was enough to see off Rotherham and Sam Morsy and Josh Windass in the 2-1 defeat of Hull last time out.
Famara Diedhiou could start in place of Matty Taylor, having stepped off the bench to score his second goal in three appearances after his injury absence in the defeat to West Brom. Frankie Fielding, Bailey Wright, Jens Hegeler and Korey Smith all remain sidelined, however. Nathan Baker was on the bench again last time out – though he did not appear – and he could be close to a return at centre-back.

Tomas Kalas – Bristol City’s defence has a different look to it without Aden Flint, but the Chelsea loanee has stepped up to replace the former skipper.
Bristol City’s four-match winning streak was ended by West Brom last time out, as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Hawthorns despite Lloyd Kelly and Famara Diedhiou’s second-half goals. They had previously won 3-0 at QPR, with Andreas Weimann scoring twice, and 1-0 at Swansea courtesy of the same player. Marley Watkins then scored in both a 4-1 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers and a 1-0 win at home to Sheffield United before the West Brom loss.
