Our Prediction Tip

Draw will win this match.

The head-to-head record makes happy reading for Sevilla ahead of their clash with Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday evening, as they have recorded five wins in the last six meetings between the teams, although they lost 2-1 at Camp El Madrigal last season. Sevilla have won on three of their last four visits to Villarreal though, with three out of those four games also featuring over 2.5 goals.

Villarreal v Sevilla: Prediction

Sevilla's thrillingly entertaining 6-4 home win against Espanyol last weekend showed off their attacking talents, but Sampaoli will want his new team to tighten up at the back if they are to challenge the established big three in La Liga this season. Sevilla also have an awful away record to deal with - they have not won in 19 on the road - while Villarreal tend to be strong at home, but have to bounce back from a disappointing Champions League exit to Monaco in midweek. A draw looks possible but this game is almost guaranteed to provide goals.

Villarreal v Sevilla: Betting Tips

A price of 19/10 on Sevilla to win at Villarreal does not look particularly good value considering how poor they have been on the road for the last few months, but there is not much to be excited about odds of 6/4 on a home win either. Perhaps the draw is better value at 5/2.

However, the most interest in the betting odds for this La Liga match concerns the goals markets, with both teams to score looking a certainty to land at 14/19. Over 2.5 goals should also come in at odds of 10/11 and it might also be worth taking on the price of 21/10 for over 3.5 goals.

A 1-1 draw at Granada on the opening weekend of the season was a reasonable result first up for Villarreal, especially considering coach Marcelino left on the eve of the new campaign and there are a lot of players out injured.

Striker Roberto Soldado heads the list of those in the treatment room, with Jaume Costa, Denis Cheryshev, Daniele Bonera and Jonathan dos Santos all expected to miss out this weekend. Perhaps the most important absentee is top striker Cedric Bakambu.

Villarreal likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Asenjo

  • Defenders:- Gaspar, Musacchio, Ruiz, Rukavina

  • Midfielders:- Soriano, N'Diaye, Trigueros, Castillejo

  • Forwards:- Pato, Sansona

A 6-4 home win over Espanyol last time out suggests Sevilla, under new coach Jorge Sampaoli, could be the team to watch in La Liga this year. Luciano Vietto scored twice and he will again partner Wissam Ben Yedder in attack, with a further goal threat coming from Franco Vazquez. All three players were signed this summer and a bright season looks to be on the cards for Sevilla.

Sevilla likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Rico

  • Defenders:- Mariano, Pareja, Mercado

  • Midfielders:- Kiyotake, Vazquez, N'Zonzi, Sarabia, Vitolo

  • Forwards:- Ben Yedder, Vietto

If any game in La Liga promises to be worth watching this weekend, surely it is Villarreal v Sevilla, with a huge amount of attacking talent and both teams likely to push for the win. Sevilla\'s 6-4 win over Espanyol means morale is high but they are weak at the back and their vulnerabilities in defence could be punished by Villarreal. A high-scoring draw is possible.
Sevilla have failed to win their last 19 away matches in La Liga.
