Tottenham Hotspur will win this match.
Tottenham have won 67 of their previous matches against Everton, while the Toffees have won 55 and there have been 54 draws. Everton’s last win was in December 2012, with Tottenham having won seven and drawn five of the 12 games since. Their stunning 6-2 win at Goodison Park just before Christmas was their fourth win in a row in this current streak. Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane each scored twice and Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli were also on the scoresheet for Spurs, despite Theo Walcott having given Everton the lead; Gylfi Sigurdsson was the hosts’ other scorer.
Here are the results of their last five competitive matches:
Dec 23, 2018: Everton 2-6 Tottenham Hotspur
Jan 13, 2018: Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Everton
Sep 09, 2017: Everton 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Mar 05, 2017: Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 Everton
Aug 13, 2016: Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
After their exploits on Wednesday night, you could forgive Spurs for taking one eye off this match – which is, in many ways, a dead rubber.
Though fourth place is not secure, it would take a heavy defeat and an eight-goal swing to Arsenal for Spurs to miss out on a top-four spot to their North London rivals.
And, after all, if they win the Champions League final, they do not need to qualify for next year’s competition through the league anyway.
That is all academic, however. The fact is, Spurs will be buoyed by Wednesday night and keen to give their home fans a big send off in their final league game.
Lucas Moura proved his worth once again and the Brazilian will be key with Son suspended and Harry Kane still injured.
Everton have been difficult to break down in recent weeks, but the one team to manage it were relegated Fulham and Spurs can certainly follow suit.
Everton’s away form has been their weak link, despite beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United at home in the last two months.
With Yerry Mina back, an already strong defence has been bolstered further but Spurs – even without Son and Kane – can earn a home win.
Momentum can be key in football and, after ending their losing streak in such dramatic style – and with such a big prize as a result of it – Spurs should go into this game with restored confidence.
They may have lost their last two matches at their new stadium, but they can end the season on a positive note to keep them in good spirits for the build-up to the Champions League final.
Tottenham are favourites to beat Everton at home, but you can still back them at 23/20 to win with Ladbrokes and 888sport.
Spurs’ defensive weaknesses have been exposed in recent matches – particularly their last two European away games – and both teams to score has been set at 4/6 with Bet365.
Tottenham to win and BTTS is 3/1 with Bet365, Betfair, Paddy Power, Betway and 888sport. Over 2.5 goals will return 4/5 with Bet365 and 888sport.
After his hat-trick in mid-week, Lucas Moura is 21/10 to score at any time with Betfair and Paddy Power.
Tottenham Hotspur can finish the league season on a high note, buoyed by their superb comeback win in mid-week.
Jan Vertonghen was passed fit and played in the second leg against Ajax after the head injury he suffered in the first game, while Erik Lamela made his return to action from the bench, There are likely to be a couple of changes, with Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose generally rested after mid-week matches. Fit-again Serge Aurier and Ben Davies could replace them.
Juan Foyth and Heung-Min Son are suspended after their red cards against Bournemouth. Harry Kane is still sidelined, meanwhile, while Harry Winks is out for the season and Davinson Sanchez has a thigh injury.
Lucas Moura – Spurs’ hero against Ajax with his second hat-trick of the season, following the one he scored at home to Huddersfield earlier in the season.
Dele Alli – Two assists in the win against Ajax, including the crucial touch to set up Moura for the last-gasp winner.
Christian Eriksen – The Danish playmaker has 17 assists for the season and has already scored a couple of goals in Spurs’ new home too.
As well as booking their place in the Champions League final, Tottenham’s win against Ajax ended a run of three straight defeats. Spurs beat Brighton 1-0 thanks to Christian Eriksen’s late winner but lost back-to-back home games by the same score against West Ham and Ajax. They also lost 1-0 away to Bournemouth in their last league game – conceding a late winner after Heung-Min Son and Juan Foyth were sent off. Lucas Moura’s stunning second-half hat-trick helped Spurs come back from the dead and beat Ajax 3-2 on Wednesday night.
Richarlison will be assessed after suffering a rib injury, while Yerry Mina is back in training and could return to the starting line-up. Andre Gomes’ three-match ban for violent conduct has ended, meanwhile, and he could return in holding midfield.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – The Icelandic midfielder has 14 goals and six assists so far this season, having enjoyed a far more consistent campaign than last time out.
Richarlison – If fit, the Brazilian – who is also on 14 goals – will be targeting the one goal that takes him clear of Sigurdsson at the top of the goalscoring charts.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Has made the central striking role his own, with eight goals this season to force himself ahead of Cenk Tosun in the pecking order.
Everton have lost just one of their last seven matches, winning five of the other six and keeping clean sheets in all of them. Their one blip was a 2-0 defeat away to relegated Fulham but they bounced back by thrashing Manchester United 4-0 – Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott scoring the goal. A goalless draw away to Crystal Palace followed, before the Toffees beat Burnley 2-0 last weekend – an own goal and Seamus Coleman’s strike earning victory.
