Both of last season’s marches between these teams ended in 1-1 draws, while the previous league game before that ended 2-2. Southampton won 1-0 in the FA Cup fourth round in 2018 in between, while Watford have only won one of their last 12 matches against Southampton in all competitions. Last season, Jose Holebas cancelled out Manolo Gabbiadini’s goal at St Mary’s, while Andre Gray scored a last-minute leveller after Shane Long’s record-breaking opener after just 7.69 seconds in the reverse fixture.

Watford managed to end their own hunt for a return to winning ways – beating Norwich 2-0 in their last away game, also against a fellow struggler.
They lost 3-0 to Burnley last time out, but Christian Kabasele, Troy Deeney and Roberto Pereyra could all come into the team to face Southampton.
They represent three major reinforcements and the Hornets could come away with another hugely important three points on the road.
Southampton, with home advantage, are favourites but Watford have won more recently and the Hornets could definitely sneak something out of this one.
Southampton can be backed at a best price of 23/20 to win with Betway, while Watford’s best price is 13/5 with Betfair. The Hornets won more recently than Southampton, however.

Both teams desperately need a win and Southampton showed signs of improvement last time out, but Watford have won more recently and can get a vital three away points in this game.
In more positive news for Southampton, Jannik Vestergaard is expected to recover from illness, while Sofiane Boufal faces a late fitness test on a toe injury. The Saints are otherwise at full strength for this one.
Danny Ings – Scored in the last two league games – the home defeat against Everton and the away draw with Arsenal.
James Ward-Prowse – Southampton’s other goalscorer last weekend, having also netted in the league defeat to champions Manchester City too.
Pierre-Emil Hjobjerg – A key player in the midfield battle for Southampton – he has been quieter this year than last year and if he can get back to form, so will the Saints.
Southampton ended a four-match losing streak, which included their record 9-0 home defeat to Leicester, when they drew 2-2 with Arsenal last weekend. Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse scored the Saints’ goals. They are now without a win in eight matches in all competitions, however.
Watford have a lengthy injury list to contend with, though Christian Kabasele is available again after his red card against Norwich. Roberto Pereyra and Troy Deeney could also return to the starting line-up. Craig Dawson suffered an eye injury last weekend, but he is expected to recover from that and the illness that had hampered his preparations for that game.
Gerard Deulofeu – Scored one and set up the other in the win against Norwich and will be a key player up front in this match too.
Troy Deeney – Has worked hard to get back to full fitness and there is little question the big striker can cause problems up front.
Roberto Pereyra – Another key player to have come back from injury, he will be key on the counter-attack against Southampton.
Watford recorded their first win of the season away to Norwich before the international break – Gerard Deulofeu and Andre Gray scoring their goals in a 2-0 victory – but they failed to back it up last time out. The Hornets lost 3-0 at home to Burnley as they dropped back down to the bottom of the league.
