SOU FC vs THFC Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Southampton are at 15/8, a draw is at 5/2, and Tottenham are at 7/5.

Southampton will come into this match in ninth in the Premier League, remarkably, on 31 points and eight clear of the drop zone now.  They are nine points away from safety, in the eyes of many, so this could see them ‘go for it’ a bit more here in the search for glory.  They don’t play again for another week, so we could really see them going for it and attempting to make a go at this cup run.

Tottenham are outside of the top four in the Premier League, but you have to think that the fact that they are just six off the pace of Chelsea given their torrid start gives them hope of making it into the Champions League.  It’s unlikely, sure, but given how no one seemingly wants it, they might just fancy claiming it.  That could influence them, as this doesn’t look like their only path toward glory after all.

At home, the Saints have taken four wins, two draws, and seven losses this season across all competitions.  However, all four wins, and one of those draws, have come in the last seven, leading you to think they have found their way out of that poor run of form.  Spurs, on the other hand, have three wins, seven draws, a loss on penalties, and six losses on the road in all competitions.  They have failed to win any of their last four and only have a win over Wolves in their last seven trips elsewhere.

Betfair have Ings scoring anytime at 2.1.

Ladbrokes have both teams scoring at 8/15.

Southampton vs Tottenham Prediction

Southampton have a really good chance at taking a result here, and we love their chances.  They have the striking core to do so, have an extra day to rest, and have some form behind them that can lead them past Spurs.

Correct Score Prediction: Southampton 2-1 Tottenham

Southampton Team News

Ralph Hasenhuttl has some issues to deal with in regards to injuries with defenders Yan Valery, Cedric Soares, and Jan Bednarek set to miss out on this FA Cup clash.

Southampton Key Man

Danny Ings got a good rest and it didn’t even hurt them on Tuesday as they won at Palace anyway.  The English striker has been superb, so much so that he’s being touted as a Euro selection possibility for the Three Lions.  We’ll see if that comes true, but he could only enhance those calls here.  Moving forward, they also have the impressive, in-form Nathan Redmond to count on.  He comes off the back of scoring and assisting a goal on Tuesday, helping his side skate even further away from the melee at the bottom of the PL table.

Southampton Team Form

The Saints have four wins and a loss in their last five matches:

0-2 win at Crystal Palace
2-3 home loss vs Wolves
1-2 win at Leicester
2-0 home win vs Huddersfield (FA Cup)
1-0 home win vs Tottenham

Southampton Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Tottenham Team News

Jose Mourinho will be missing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, defender Ben Davies, midfielder Moussa Sissoko, and striker Harry Kane due to injuries for this fixture, leaving him with fewer options than he’d otherwise have.

Tottenham Key Man

One of the men that was responsible for helping Spurs get here was Gio Lo Celso, who scored a second minute goal against Middlesbrough to help them eventually get past them in a replay.  They need more from the on-loan Real Betis man if they want to improve and advance.  New signing Gedson Fernandes will also likely get the chance to make an impact from the start here.  With Kane out, they need someone to be a spark plug for them, and he is as good as any to step up and do so.

Tottenham Team Form

Spurs have two wins, two draws, and a win in their last five matches:

2-1 home win vs Norwich
0-0 draw at Watford
2-1 home win vs Middlesbrough (FA Cup)
0-1 home loss vs Liverpool
1-1 draw at Middlesbrough (FA Cup)

Tottenham Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

While it's not going to be easy for Southampton here, you have to like their chances. They have just about gotten themselves to safety, incredibly, in the Premier League and they have seen their fortunes improve dramatically at home recently. On top of that, the home side has fared well in this tie of late, plus Tottenham have not looked very good on their travels. Mourinho is starting to cut an isolated figure, already, and that bodes well for the hosts.
The home side in this tie have failed to lose in the last seven fixtures, all of which have come in the Premier League.
