Sheffield United
VS
Manchester City

Our Prediction Tip

Manchester City will win this match.

Over the course of 98 games, Manchester City have 41 wins, 29 draws, and 28 losses to Sheffield United.  City’s 2-0 win at home back at the end of December is the only time they have faced off in the last decade.

SHFU vs MCFC Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Sheffield United are at 8/1, a draw is at 4/1, and Manchester City are at 1/3.

Sheffield United are the little engine that could.  Every time you watch them, you only get more and more awed by them and their tenacity and organization, such was on display as Arsenal found out on Saturday when they fought back to grab a point.  That has them in seventh ahead of this round, with a total of 33 points.  They are still right in the thick of the European battle, so don’t be shocked if they keep up the fight.  They have four points in their last two games, bouncing back from consecutive away defeats to City and Liverpool.

Manchester City, meanwhile, will once again look to boost themselves back up after a late twisting and turning home affair with Palace on Saturday ultimately ended in a draw.  That leaves them 16 points off the pace of Liverpool on top but they are still in second, so there is that.  They had been rattling off results again, and they looked back to their best, but that performance might just have one or two liking the Blades’ chances here.  They had won three in a row before that draw.

At home, the Blades have taken 17 points from five wins and two draws thus far.  They have lost four times at the ground, but sometimes it’s hard to remember who beat them, such is the impression they have left this term.  In their last five at the Lane, they have only one loss and have picked up eight points.  As for the Citizens, they have done well on the road, obtaining 22 points out of a possible 33 so far via seven wins and a draw.  They have won three of the last four and have ten points from their last 15.

Betfair have Aguero scoring anytime at 1.73.

Ladbrokes have both teams scoring at 4/5.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City Prediction

City are not the team we have grown accustomed to of late, but they are no slouches, either.  They are just so, so good, and it’s going to be tough to derail them for the Blades when the final whistle has blown.

Correct Score Prediction: Sheff Utd 1-2 Man City

Sheff Utd Team News

Chris Wilder could be without veteran striker David McGoldrick here, but the Irishman is 50/50 and might just make it back in time.

Sheff Utd Key Man

John Fleck, like many of his teammates is super underrated.  In fact, he might be the most underrated player in the league as a whole.  He scored again on Saturday, with a tremendous volleyed finish, to take his tally up to four so far. Along with two goals and a bunch of great, disciplined defensive work, he’s quite the prospect to go up against.  In goal, Dean Henderson will look to get one over on a team he will not doubt despise.  The on-loan Manchester United ‘keeper has been superb for them and will hope to keep that form up.

Sheff Utd Team Form

The Blades have a draw, two wins, and two losses in their last five matches:

1-1 draw at Arsenal
1-0 home win vs West Ham
2-1 home win vs Fylde (FA Cup)
2-0 loss at Liverpool
2-0 loss at Manchester City

Sheff Utd Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 3-5-2

Man City Team News

Pep Guardiola will definitely be without winger Leroy Sane, who is reportedly still a target of German giants Bayern Munich.  Aymeric Laporte remains in training, but there is doubt he will feature here as of yet.

Man City Key Man

Two goals in the span of five minutes from Sergio Aguero looked to have handed City a late, dramatic win, as he so often has done for them over the years, on Saturday.  Despite not being able to hold on, the Argentine proved again how valuable he is to the side.  Gabriel Jesus also showed that when he came off the bench to supply Aguero. We’ve seen them play together more of late, and we could see it again here as they try to stretch the Blades brutally tough three-man back line.

Man City Team Form

The Citizens have a draw and four wins in their last five matches:

2-2 home draw vs Crystal Palace
1-6 win at Aston Villa
1-3 win at Manchester United (EFL Cup)
4-1 home win vs Port Vale (FA Cup)
2-1 home win vs Everton

Man City Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Any true fan of the game will know by now that the Blades are 'for real.' This is a team that are not out to do anything but pick up points and progress to higher heights. Arsenal will know that now, and so, too, will City after their clash back last month. The Blades gave the Citizens all they could handle that night, and you can guarantee it will be a hard night for the visitors here, too. Even still, you have to lean toward the bigger squad, which is City's, on the short rest.
Besides leaders Liverpool, Sheffield United have the division's second best defence currently.
