Porto will win this match.
This season’s meetings are the first between these two teams in European football since Porto won 1-0 on aggregate in the second round of the 1993-94 UEFA Champions League. Feyenoord won this season’s match in Rotterdam 2-0 – Jens Toornstra and Rick Karsdorp scoring the Dutch team’s goals.
Porto are the only team Feyenoord have beaten so far in this competition, but they are still in contention just about.
Luis Sinisterra’s goal against Rangers ensured this group is going to the wire, with any two of these two teams or Rangers or Young Boys Bern set for the top two.
Porto are in a strong position, however, and with home advantage and a relatively full strength squad available, the Portuguese side should complete their task.
Feyenoord, by contrast, are without several players – particularly in defence and in goal – and the goalless draw with Vitesse last time out can not mask that.
While Steven Berghuis is in good form at the other end and Nikolai Jorgensen is fit again, the concern will centre on Feyenoord’s defence.
So how can Porto get at them? Their wealth of attacking talent includes Ze Luis up front, while Jesus Corona has created plenty of goals already this season.
If those two combine again, Porto should get the result they need to ensure they are one of the teams bound for the last-32 stage from this group.
FC Porto are favourites to win, with Feyenoord’s poor away form and injury list counting against the Dutch team. Porto are 2/5 to win with Ladbrokes.
Feyenoord do have quality up front, however, and both teams to score has been set at a tempting price of evens with Betway, Betfair and Bet365.
At the other end, Ze Luis is Porto’s favourite to score at any time and he can be backed at evens with Betfair and Paddy Power.
FC Porto are in good form, have home advantage against a team that has lost both away matches in this group so far, and a full-strength team compared to an injury-ravaged defence. That is why they should win.
With everything riding on the final round of fixtures in this group, it should be a full-strength Porto side that takes on Feyenoord. They are without Vincent Aboubakar due to a muscular injury, however, and teenager Romario Baro is also unavailable.
Ze Luis – Porto’s top scorer so far this season with eight from 18 appearances in all competitions, most recently in the home win against Pacos de Ferreria.
Jesus Corona – No goals so far this season, but eight assists highlight exactly what he offers from the wing.
Luis Diaz – The Colombian, in the opposite wing, has weighed in with four assists so fat this season, which complement his seven goals.
FC Porto bounced back from their defeat to Rangers in this competition by winning their next five matches in a row. That included their 2-0 win at home to Pacos de Ferreira in the league, in which Mamadou Ndiaye and Ze Luis scored their goals, and the 3-0 win away to Casa Pia in the Taca de Liga. Last weekend, however, they could only draw 1-1 at Belenenses – Alex Telles equalizing from the penalty spot.
Feyenoord have a number of injury concerns, with Kenneth Vermeer, Rick Karsdorp, Edgar Ie, Ridgeciano Haps and Sven van Beek all sidelined. That means very few options for rotation for this game, with the likes of Tyrell Malacia and Lutsharel Geertruida set to continue deputising.
Steven Berghuis – Scored the winning goal against PEC Zwolle – Feyenoord’s most recent victory – with what his 11th of the season. He also has six assists.
Luis Sinisterra – His fourth goal of the season ensured Feyenoord’s Europa League hopes go into the final round of group-stage fixtures.
Nikolai Jorgensen – The Danish forward is back from injury and the question now is whether or not he will be able to get back to his prolific best up front.
Feyenoord are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, but have drawn three of their last four – including the 2-2 draw with Rangers in their most recent game in this competition. Steven Berghuis scored the winner as they followed that up with a 1-0 win at home to PEC Zwolle, but they then endured a goalless draw with Vitesse last time out.
