NUFC vs BUR Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Newcastle are at 1/1 to win, a draw is at 23/10, and a Burnley win is at 14/5.

Newcastle come into this match on a very good home run recently.  The Magpies have been toting up the points, taking nine from their last nine on Tyneside to give themselves a chance of avoiding relegation, something that was not even remotely thought of back in October given the way they had started.  There is still much to do, but they have been playing so much better of late and look inspired in the manner they are playing.  A win over the Clarets would mean they would leap over them and lead them by a point in the table.  With ten points from their last 15 on offer, this looks a rejuvenated side.

Speaking of rejuvenation, that’s what Burnley have done.  And Dyche has done it by getting them back to basics, which is paying off big time.  They have been on a heck of a run of their own of late with five wins and three draws in the last eight league matches propelling them up the table further away from relegation trouble.  With them two points ahead of Newcastle, a win could take them a whole five ahead and would just about have to be seen as a job nearly done for them.  A draw wouldn’t be the worst, either, as they would at least keep their gap to their hosts.

At home, Newcastle haven’t got all that great of a record overall, but that doesn’t mean much when you factor in that football is all about the here and now.  Ten of their 16 home points have come in the last five matches, and we know they have taken three wins on the bounce there.  It’s just a major, major boon that is going on, and the mood has finally shifted to a positive one.  That kind of environment makes it hard to see them losing this match, particularly given that so much is riding on it.

Burnley have typically struggled historically when playing away from Turf Moor, but they have been great of late away from home.  They have two wins and two draws in their past four away matches, accounting for nearly 2/3 of their whole away total.  That says a ton about the direction they are headed in.  While they are not at their ground for this tie, as they were in the win over Spurs, you can expect them to really test and place the Magpies’ defence under pressure, unlike what Huddersfield were able to do.

Betfair have under 1.5 total goals at 2.87.

No for both sides scoring, via Ladbrokes, is available at 4/5.

Newcastle vs Burnley Prediction

If one side is going to win this match, the favorite has to be Newcastle.  Burnley did beat Spurs, but that was at home.  They have had a great run of form in the last couple of months, but they are due to come down to earth a little, and this could be just the time it occurs.

Correct Score Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Burnley

Newcastle Team News

Rafa Benitez has goalkeepers Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow out injured at the moment, though neither are first choice currently.  Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is also working his way back to full fitness and is likely to miss out anyway as the Spaniard is surely going to not rock the boat with many changes.

Newcastle Key Man

Miguel Almiron looked every bit the piece the Magpies were missing on Saturday.  The Paraguayan was pacy, electric, and he dovetailed well with fellow Spanish-speaker Ayoze Perez.  His chipped effort that hit the bar was exquisite, but the pace and guile he showed to get there proved why he looks well worth the fee paid.  Another player that hit the woodwork was Sean Longstaff, who continues to excel in the midfield.  Initially drafted in as a result of injuries, the youngster’s got to be toward the top of the team sheet now.  His cool, calm, and composed demeanor and his box-to-box running are beginning to be irreplaceable for the Tynesiders.

Newcastle Team Form

Newcastle have two wins, a draw, and two losses in their last five matches:

2-0 home win vs Huddersfield
1-1 draw at Wolves
1-0 loss at Tottenham
2-1 home win vs Manchester City
0-2 home loss vs Watford (FA Cup)

Newcastle Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 5-2-3

Burnley Team News

Sean Dyche will have winger Aaron Lennon and midfield man Steven Defour out for this clash at St. James’ Park.  We might see a tiny bit of rotation, but we shouldn’t see a ton from him after they played so well on Saturday against Spurs.

Burnley Key Man

Dyche showed his ability as a manager when he brought on Gudmundsson and Brady at the perfect time to swing the game in his favor against Spurs, and he could include them from the start here.  The Icelandic international set up the winning goal with his creativity, even if it was a scuffed shot-turned-pass that paved the way to victory.  Ashley Barnes was the man that ultimately put that away, and he remains a robust, old school threat alongside Chris Wood.  Barnes will look to bulldoze his way to goal and will be downright clinical if he’s given the chance to be.

Burnley Team Form

Burnley have two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five matches:

2-1 home win vs Tottenham
1-3 win at Brighton
1-1 home draw vs Southampton
2-2 draw at Manchester United
5-0 loss at Manchester City (FA Cup)

Burnley Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

This is quite a tough match to call. But someone has to give way, at least a little bit. Burnley have shown impressive away form of late, while the Magpies have proven to find a great home form from somewhere. The key might just end up being Newcastle's propensity for beating the teams around them. They have beaten Cardiff and Huddersfield recently, among others, and that could bode well for them as they look to shake off Burnley.
Newcastle have won three home league fixtures in a row, but Burnley have not lost in the league since Boxing Day.
