The Premier League Asia Trophy is a four-team tournament that has been played every two years in various Asian countries since 2003.  Manchester City have appeared in it twice before, finishing in third in 2005 and winning it in 2013.  West Ham have played in it just once, coming in third back in 2009.  The winners of this match will move on the Final to come on Saturday, which will pit them against the winner of Wolves and Newcastle.  The losers will also playoff as well on the same day.

Manchester City will be playing their first friendly match of the preseason here as they start their preparations in style against a fellow PL side.  They, of course, finished last season with a flurry, capping off a treble by hammering Watford at Wembley to hoist the FA Cup.  That was added to the Premier League crown and the EFL Cup as well.  They’ll be looking for a third PL title in a row this term to put them in very high company.

West Ham, meanwhile, have played (and won) just once so far in preseason, so this will start to prepare them a little bit more vigorously.  Last season, they spent quite a lot of money, and this summer they appear set to do similar business, at least if rumors are to be believed.  All in all, they were decent in 2018-19, but they just never got to that next level, and Pellegrini will hope he can help them get there as he faces his former side here.

Manchester City vs West Ham Prediction

City are a massive club, and they have a ton of youngsters that would love to make an impact on a bigger stage.  One of them will do that, and they will hand the Citizens a spot in the Final.

Correct Score Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 West Ham

Man City Team News

Pep Guardiola has a 26-man squad that will travel to China.  Phil Foden will not be among those in the team, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus and Ederson also set to have a little bit more vacation time, among others.  New signings Rodri and Angelino, a returner, are in the 26.

Man City Key Man

It may be early days yet, but new signings will want to show a glimpse of what is to come, and that will be the case with Rodri here.  It’s been hinted at that he will be Fernandinho’s (finally) replacement, but he will have to start earning that trust here. Angelino, likewise, will be looking to show why the club have brought him back in.  The left back has a big chance with Benjamin Mendy failing to flatter over the past couple of years.

West Ham Key Man

With rumors swirling that he is close to an exit, it might be time for Chicharito to either prove his worth or force a way out with a strong performance here.  The Mexican striker has gotten few chances in London, so regardless he might be on the move soon.  Felipe Anderson is another to keep a close watch on, even if he doesn’t play a ton and it’s just preseason.  He’s quick on the ball and has an eye for the goal, something every side needs a bit of.

West Ham Team Form

2-3 win vs Rheindorf Altach (Fri)

West Ham Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-5-1

Even though this is just preseason and it's only a minor trophy to be grabbed as a result of winning it, it's hard to think that Manchester City won't be winning this match and then going on to hoist it. Even with a plethora of stars just getting back into fitness and a ton of changes sure to be made, they are a well-oiled machine that should be plenty enough to just keep on rolling.
Manchester City have beaten West Ham in each of the last eight meetings between the two sides.
