Manchester City will win this match.
Vincent Kompany smashed in an iconic winner against Leicester at the Etihad in the penultimate game of the 2018-19 season, and City did the double over the Foxes last season too. Jamie Vardy gave Leicester the lead when they last met at the Etihad, but goals from Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus earned City a 3-1 win. Their most recent meeting was at the King Power in February, and Jesus scored the only goal of the game. Here are the results of the last five matches:
Feb 22, 2020: Leicester City 0-1 Manchester City
Dec 21, 2019: Manchester City 3-1 Leicester City
May 06, 2019: Manchester City 1-0 Leicester City
Dec 26, 2018: Leicester City 2-1 Manchester City
Dec 18, 2018: Leicester City 1-1 (p) Manchester City
After an excellent first half, depleted Manchester City made hard work of eventually seeing off Wolves last weekend.
Still, City made a winning start to the Premier League season and, back on home soil, are favourites to make it two wins from two.
They are short of depth due to illness and injuries, but they still have the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling available.
Phil Foden has two goals in his last two games and Liam Delap has proved what he could offer with his brilliant finish against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.
Leicester have made a strong start to the league season too, scoring seven goals in two wins, but they have a poor recent record in this fixture.
A Boxing Day win in 2018 is their only win in their last nine meetings, with City wining the other eight – albeit two were after a penalty shoot-out.
Jamie Vardy has a good record against City and he will pose similar problems to always for the Blues’ defence.
But even without several players, make no mistake that this is a seriously strong City team.
Manchester City are big favourites to see of Leicester and can be backed at 3/10 to win with 888sport and Betway.
Leicester have started the season in good scoring form, however, and both teams to score can be backed at 3/4 with Bet365 and Betway.
Over 2.5 goals will return 17/40 with Betway,
Raheem Sterling is 19/20 to score at any time with 888sport. Phil Foden is 39/20 with 888sport, having netted in both matches so far this season.
Manchester City are big favourites for this match, after their winning start to the season, and their good recent record means they should not be written off.
Young striker Liam Delap impressed in the Carabao Cup in mid-week, but City will be back to full strength – as much as possible – for this fixture. Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, Oleksandr Zinchenko and now Gabriel Jesus are all out injured. Aymeric Laporte is back in training after his isolation period but this game may come too soon.
Kevin de Bruyne – Scored one and set one up in the win at Wolves last time out to continue where he left off last season.
Raheem Sterling – Finished as City’s top goalscorer last season and set up Phil Foden’s goal in the win against Wolves.
Phil Foden – After attracting headlines for the wrong reasons on international duty, he got back to his best with a great finish in the win at Wolves before his win in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.
Manchester City have won both matches they have played this season. They beat Wolves 3-1 in the Premier League, with Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus on target, and saw off Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup as debutant Liam Delap and then Foden scored.
Cengiz Under is awaiting international clearance before making his debut, while Jonny Evans remains sidelined. Wilfred Ndidi suffered a bad injury and will be back out for at least three months and Demarai Gray and Ricardo Pereira are sidelined too.
James Maddison – When he gets back to full fitness, he will be a key creative player and add a dynamism that has been missed at times.
Jamie Vardy – A rarity last week in that the Foxes scored four and he did not net any of them but he did score twice on the opening day.
Harvey Barnes – Scored one and set one up last weekend in the home win against Burnley to reiterate his worth going forward.
Leicester City have won their opening two games of the league season, with Timothy Castagne scoring one and Jamie Vardy two in a 3-0 win at West Brom, before a 4-2 win against Burnley. Harvey Barnes levelled, and an own goal, James Justin’s strike and Denis Praet’s late goal ensured a home win. They did lose in mid-week in the Carabao Cup against Arsenal, however.
