Liverpool will win this match.
Sevilla have yet to taste defeat against Liverpool, taking two draws and a win in three outings.
Here's a look:
Nov 21, 2017: Sevilla 3-3 Liverpool (UCL)
Sep 13, 2017: Liverpool 2-2 Sevilla (UCL)
May 18, 2016: Liverpool 1-3 Sevilla (UEL)
Liverpool will come into this match, their fourth of the preseason, with a feeling of pleasure. They have come a long way since facing Sevilla three times in the span of a few months. They’ve been to two UCL Finals and won one of them, and now they are seeking to build on their highest ever Premier League points total as well. They have not strengthened, instead choosing to promote from within, so it will be interesting, to say the least, to see their progress.
Sevilla have regressed since their triumph over Liverpool three years ago, but they still are not a team to be trifled with. This is a side that are always on the fringes and ever capable of beating their opposition, whomever it may be. With that said, they are under new management, yet again and will need some transition time to figure things out properly. So far, they have done well in preseason, winning all three of their matches as they get ready for the season to come.
Liverpool are finally going to want to rid their Sevilla ‘monkey’ from their backs, and this is the prime time to do that, even if it’s ‘just’ a friendly. Boston is the perfect place to do so and please the owners.
Jurgen Klopp has called in a 28-man squad for this American tour, and it’s a surprising one in some areas, with journeyman goalkeeper Andy Lonergan joining up due to the plethora of injuries. There is no space for Alisson, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino, all of whom are still either playing or enjoying their summer holidays.
So far, preseason has been more than kind to young striker Rhian Brewster, who has scored some goals and been involved, helping to promote the idea he could help the senior squad in the season to come. Adam Lallana, oh so often injured, is another hoping for the same. The Englishman might just be played as a deep lying playmaker, and that could revitalize his career. Left back Yasser Larouchi is also hopeful of being Andy Robertson’s backup and he could get a step closer with a good performance here.
Liverpool have won each their last five matches:
1-3 win at Bradford City (Fri)
0-6 win at Tranmere (Fri)
0-2 win vs Tottenham (UCL)
2-0 home win vs Wolves
4-0 home win vs Barcelona (UCL)
Julen Lopetegui has quite a strong team with him in the United States, and he will look to build upon that here with the same general look, you’d have to think. He has no major absences due to international commitments, so that certainly helps him and his side’s prep work.
Luuk de Jong didn’t take long to get things off to a flying start against FC Dallas on Wednesday, scoring inside the first half an hour with a sublime finish. In midfield, the always reliable Ever Banega will be patrolling things, making sure to setup camp where his side need to be so he can have an effect on both defence and offence. The wing backs are also vital, with Sergio Escudero proving to have been one of the men to have haunted LFC in the past.
Sevilla have four wins and a draw in their last five matches:
1-3 win at FC Dallas (Fri)
2-1 home win vs Reading (Fri)
4-5 win at Simba (Fri)
2-0 home win vs Athletic Bilbao
1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid
