Our Prediction Tip

In their only previous match up, France won 1-4 in Moldova thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Raphael Varane, Olivier Giroud, and Kylian Mbappe.  Vlad Ambros scored a late consolation goal for the minnows.

France vs Moldova Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

France are at 1/50, a draw is at 16/1, and Moldova are at 33/1.

Group H currently sees Turkey on top of proceedings with 19 points from eight matches, though France only trail them on goal difference.  With Iceland back four on 15 points, that means that both of those teams will go through with wins regardless of Iceland’s result.  They would also move on if Iceland were to drop points, so that is a possibility, albeit a remote one, too.  Albania have 12, while Andorra and Moldova are each on 12, fighting for scraps to see who avoids a last place finish.

France have not had it all their own way since winning the World Cup, but they have still been quite strong nonetheless and are very much going to be contenders to win tournaments for the foreseeable future.  In their last year, they have lost just twice, going along with a draw and eight victories.  At home, they have a draw and five wins thus far in the last year.

Moldova, meanwhile, have had more struggles than France.  Unlike their opponents, they did well in the Nations League.  However, they have struggled since then to the tune of winning just once.  Overall they have won twice, picked up a draw, and lost eight times in the last year.  Away from home they have a win, over San Marino, and five losses.

Betfair have Giroud scoring anytime at 1.33.

Over 3.5 goals total is at 2/5 via Ladbrokes.

France vs Moldova Match Prediction

No matter what you might believe about France’s chances at winning the Euros this go around, it must be said that they are huge favorites here.  They should win this one with ease and stroll into the Finals.

Correct Score Prediction: France 3-0 Moldova

FRA Team News

Didier Deschamps will be missing a number of stars due to injury here.  Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, defenders Lucas Hernandez and Aymeric Laporte, midfielders Paul Pogba and Blaise Matuidi, and striker Anthony Martial are among the names left out due to injuries alone.

FRA Key Man

The old say goes “cometh the hour, cometh the man.”  That man for France has so often contrary to how clubs treat him, Olivier Giroud.  He rescued them from a potentially devastating defeat to Turkey by coming off the bench and equalizing for them last time out, and he scored against Moldova in the reverse fixture as well.  In the rare chance Moldova range forward, France will be glad to have N’Golo Kante back.  And don’t just think he’s all about defence.  That’s not the case any longer, as his improved shooting has shown in the last 12 months or so.

FRA Team Form

France have a draw and four wins in their last five matches:

1-1 home draw vs Turkey
0-1 win at Iceland
3-0 home win vs Andorra
4-1 home win vs Albania
0-4 win at Andorra

France Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

MDA Team News

Engin Firat has named essentially the same squad as he did last time out, in the loss to Albania, so there won’t likely be many changes here.  Bigger names to miss out on a call include defnder Ion Jardan, midfielder Catalin Carp, and strikers Vitalie Damascan and Vlad Ambros, who scored their lone goal when France defeated them last time.

MDA Key Man

It’s tough to see much joy coming for Moldova, but teams have shocked France before on their own turf.  In order for them to do it, they will need goalkeeper Alexei Koselev to have the game of his life.  The Fortuna Sittard is on a struggling Dutch club, so he should be familiar with the sort of task he will face here.  Up front, they will pin their hopes on 30 year-old Eugen Sidorenco.  He’s got seven goals for them in 35 appearances, not too shabby a record, but will need some inspired form to pierce the World champions’ armour.

MDA Team Form

Moldova have lost each of their last five matches:

0-4 home loss vs Albania
1-0 loss at Andorra
0-4 home loss vs Turkey
3-0 loss at Iceland
2-0 loss at Albania

Moldova Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 5-4-1

Moldova have not had a lot of success recently, and it's impossible to try and make a case for them to suddenly come out and turn all of that around here. France might not always be off at the races as you would expect for them to be, but it'd be a huge shock to not see them handle their business in this affair. They are defending World champions, and a win over Moldova, an easy, is almost assured.
Moldova have just one win all year, giving them just that lone result in nine outings.
