Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:
Chelsea are at 8/11, a draw is at 3/1, and Tottenham are at 7/2.
Chelsea will begin this weekend’s round in fourth place, which is where they have been for some time now. However, they are really being put under pressure of late due to a combination of them being very inconsistent and others improving slightly. They are only a point above Tottenham ahead of this clash, which obviously means the pressure is very much on. In their last five PL games, they have only one win and they have just two points from the last four.
Tottenham, meanwhile, will start in fifth, smelling blood in the water. They did not play well on Wednesday in the Champions League, to be fair, but they are only a point off and it’s Mourinho’s former (twice removed) side, so that only spices things up even more. In the PL, Spurs are rolling at present. They have won three in a row and have taken ten points from the last four matches. They might just feel confident of pipping the Blues.
The Blues’ home record so far this season has simply been wasteful and far from good enough. In 13 outings, they have just five wins to go with five losses. That’s only 18 points. In their last five at the Bridge, they have taken jut one win and four measly points from 15 on offer. Spurs’ away record has been middling, truth be told. They have 14 points from 13 games, which is far from brilliant. They have looked a bit better of late, though, with only one loss in the last five and eight points over that stretch.
Ladbrokes have no for both sides scoring at 21/20.
Betfair have Alli scoring anytime at 4.5.
Chelsea look rattled and confused right now, plain and simple. Though Spurs are far from the finished product, you just get the sense that they can upset the Blues in some manner. An away win would be absolutely no shock at all here.
Frank Lampard will be without Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Marco van Ginkel, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, and N’Golo Kante due to injuries for this very key fixture. There is also doubt over the statuses of Andreas Christensen and Tammy Abraham as well, with the former looking the more likely to feature.
It’s hard to see where goals are going to come from for the Blues, but Olivier Giroud, if Abraham can’t go, might be a route forward. He didn’t get the start, but probably should have, on Monday, and though he had a goal chalked off by VAR, he’s very much a threat compared to Batshuayi. In the midfield, Mason Mount will play a pivotal role. He’s come under fire for his play, but he has shown plenty of fire and desire about him this term to suggest he could be a major player in the years to come.
Chelsea have two losses, two draws, and a win in their last five matches:
0-2 home loss vs Manchester United
2-2 draw at Leicester
1-2 win at Hull (FA Cup)
2-2 home draw vs Arsenal
1-0 loss at Newcastle
Jose Mourinho has some huge issues up front as Son Heung-Min, due to his arm injury, is now out along with key poacher Harry Kane. Moussa Sissoko remains out as well along with Juan Foyth at the back.
With Son and Kane now out, the duty of scoring goals will fall elsewhere. One potential answer, clearly, is Dele Alli. The English midfielder couldn’t stop scoring when Mourinho had first arrived at the club, and being moved further forward could be just the ticket to even more from him. Lucas Moura is another to keep an eye on. He’s been inconsistent, like the rest of his side, but he has had his moments against big clubs in the past and remains a danger man.
Tottenham have a loss, three wins, and a draw in their last five matches:
0-1 home loss vs RB Leipzig (UCL)
2-3 win at Aston Villa
3-2 home win vs Southampton (FA Cup)
2-0 home win vs Manchester City
1-1 draw at Southampton (FA Cup)
