Germany will win this match.
In one prior meeting, the two sides drew 2-2. That took place way back in 2008 in a friendly.
Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:
Belarus are at 12/1 to win, a draw is at 6/1, and a Germany win is at 2/11.
Belarus enter this match looking for their first result of the group stage after starting with zero points from their first two matches in Group C. Their already small chance of qualifying appears to be all but gone, and will be should they not get an unlikely result from this encounter. Even with a respectable year that included four wins, two draws, and three losses, it’s just tough to see how they can compete with such a strong German side, even if it’s going through a transition period of sorts. At home in the past year, they have two wins and a draw, so that is a positive to take. They also topped their Nations League group (League D, Group 2), but this is a huge step up.
Germany had the opposite fortunes in the Nations League, getting unceremoniously relegated to League B after Netherlands and World champions France finished above them to give them that bit of embarrassment. It added to a group stage elimination at the World Cup and made sure there would be no repeat, and it has prompted a response from the German association. They started this group well, but there is much work to be done to get back to where they once were. In the last year, they have five wins, three draws, and four losses. However, those losses came in official competition to fairly big sides, and they have not fallen in their last four outings, either.
Ladbrokes have Werner scoring a hat trick at 18/1.
Betfair have no for both sides scoring at 1.65.
Germany threw away a two-goal advantage the last time these two teams played to draw. That was over a decade ago, and despite how ‘down’ the Germans might seem, you just can’t see that sort of event repeating.
Igor Kriushenko, 8-4-11 as manager, has opted against calling in veteran Aleksandar Hleb, goalkeeper Andrey Harbunow, and forward Anton Saroka for this match.
Stanislav Dragun is always one to watch in the midfield for Belarus because he is a rare player that can have a big impact on both offence and defence as well. He has ten goals to his name in 58 appearances and is undoubtedly their most important player. Up front, they will be hoping that 27 year old Denis Laptev can get off the mark. In 17 caps, he’s yet to score, and they will need a goal to spring an upset against the Germans.
Belarus have two losses, two wins, and a draw in their last five matches:
2-1 loss at Northern Ireland (ECQ)
4-0 loss at Netherlands (ECQ)
0-2 win at San Marino (UNL)
0-2 win at Luxembourg (UNL)
0-0 home draw vs Moldova (UNL)
Assistant manager Marcus Sorg, filling in for injured manager Joachim Low, will be going in without goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen, defenders Antonio Rudiger, midfielders Toni Kroos and Emre Can for this match, among others.
Since finally breaking into the full national side, Serge Gnabry has literally surged. He has scored five times already in six outings for them, demonstrating how vital he could be for them for years to come in the process. In midfield, Joshua Kimmich is one to watch. The converted right back has been brilliant tactically at adapting to a multitude of positions, and he will be the link between attack and defence and be the on-field general.
Germany have two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five matches:
2-3 win at Netherlands (ECQ)
1-1 home draw vs Serbia (Fri)
2-2 home draw vs Netherlands (UNL)
3-0 home win vs Russia (Fri)
2-1 loss at France (UNL)
