Arsenal will come into this match in very bad need of a victory. The Gunners have been struggling in all competitions lately, and they will hope the international break will have helped ended that. They have gone each of their last four PL fixtures without a win and have just two points in that time, leading to a lot of consternation and doubt that Emery is the man for the job. Ahead of the weekend, they are in sixth on 17 points, eight off the pace of London rivals Chelsea for fourth.
Southampton, meanwhile, continue to have issues of their own. They are once again in the relegation battle and are in real danger of being separated from the pack already. They are in 19th with just eight points and have three points between them and Aston Villa as thing sit. Hasenhuttl has done his best, but it has not helped them much, as they are enduring a three match losing streak and a five-game winless run. That needs to stop, or he might be the latest man on the way out of the door.
One big positive for Arsenal so far this season, though there have been few, is that they are unbeaten thus far at home. The Gunners have three wins and three draws at the Emirates in the PL, giving them 12 out of a possible 18 so far. As for Southampton, they have been above average on their travels to the tune of landing seven points on the road. That’s 87.5% of their points from away fixtures, making them a threat here in London.
Betfair both sides scoring at 1.62.
Ladbrokes have Aubameyang scoring anytime at 4/5.
The recent record of Southampton has been downright ugly, and it’s difficult to imagine them defeating Arsenal here, or even getting a point. Dropping points would be a new low for Arsenal, and it’s too much to call for that.
Unai Emery only has the likes of Dani Ceballos and Reiss Nelson as doubts ahead of this 13th fixture of the season as he fights to keep his job at the London club
When Arsenal are looking for a hero, they would be wise to not look past Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Even when they have looked their most vulnerable, the Gabonese striker has been superb for them. He’s grabbed eight goals already, quite the haul given their struggles. Alongside him, they will have to be crossing their fingers that Alexandre Lacazette will get back on track. The Frenchman had dovetailed so well with him last term but he’s got just two goals this season and needs to kick on.
Arsenal have a loss and four draws in their last five matches:
2-0 loss at Leicester
1-1 draw at Vitoria Guimaraes (UEL)
1-1 home draw vs Wolves
5-5 draw, penalty loss vs Liverpool (EFL Cup)
2-2 home draw vs Crystal Palace
Ralph Hasenhuttl is missing left back Sam McQueen, but he will otherwise have a full side to pick from for this match at the Emirates.
He’s not been able to be super consistent so far, but forward Moussa Djenepo has definitely shown promise for the Saints. He has two goals in his debut season thus far, and they will hope against all hope that he can tear the Gunners to shreds as he’s done to some already. Danny Ings is more of a known quantity, and he’s the type that can danger the Arsenal back line with quick, clever runs. He’s bagged five goals and has one assist to easily pace them in the chances taken category.
Southampton have four losses and a draw in their last five matches:
1-2 home loss vs Everton
2-1 loss at Manchester City
3-1 loss at Manchester City (EFL Cup)
0-9 home loss vs Leicester
1-1 draw at Wolves
