Arsenal come into this match with a ton of momentum. Not only did they grab a crucial away goal in the first leg, but they have also won four of their last five in all comps. They are unbeaten in five in the PL, with the last two being wins now, and that has seen them move up to ninth. They are still outsiders for the Champions League via the league route, but this is a great chance for them, especially since they have navigated themselves to the Final recently.
Olympiakos, meanwhile, will come into this match off the back of a big win at the weekend. They defeated PAOK, their closest challengers, and that saw them take their Greek Super League lead up to five points. That’s a big relief for them. Many might assume that they have no chance here, but they have won in London before and should not be viewed as major pushovers as of yet. They just don’t give up very many goals, so that helps.
Arsenal’s home record at home in all competitions thus far has been very interesting. They have ten wins, five draws, and four losses so far. Those losses came in a span of about a month, and since then they have won four of their last five. That should give them a lot of confidence for sure. As for Olympiakos, they have picked up 11 wins, seven draws, and just three losses on the road in all comps. All of them came in the Champions League group stage as well, so they tend to fall against top tier opponents, including Arsenal’s chief rivals, Tottenham.
Ladbrokes have Arsenal scoring first at 4/9.
Betfair have both teams scoring at 1.87.
The Gunners have been embarrassed before at home to Olympiakos, but we don’t see that playing out this time around. They really need this, and with a goal up, they can use that as a platform to sustain this momentum.
Mikel Arteta is missing the likes of Calum Chambers, Kieran Tierney, and Cedric Soares for this encounter. A number of others could be in contention, with Pablo Mari headlining that group.
Alexandre Lacazette got himself the winner in the affair last Thursday, but it was truthfully Bakayo Saka that won the match. The full back, who is filling in quite admirably, assisted with a brilliant ball that was simply sensational and devilish. He’s a huge talent and remains one to watch. Lacazette, meanwhile, is far from chopped liver. He’s not been a regular of late, he didn’t even get off the bench in the win Sunday, but that may spur him on even more to perform here when afforded the opportunity.
Arsenal have four wins and a draw in their last five matches:
3-2 home win vs Everton
0-1 win at Olympiakos (UEL)
4-0 home win vs Newcastle
0-0 draw at Burnley
1-2 win at Bournemouth (FA Cup)
Pedro Martins looks set to have a full side to pick from here, apart from winger El Arbi Hillel Soudani due to his knee injury.
Mathieu Valbuena just seems like a man that would have played for Arsenal at one stage, doesn’t he? Small in stature but gifted on the ball, the Frenchman is definitely one to watch. He has six goals, all from the spot, and eight assists in the Greek top flight thus far. In the Champions League, before their ‘demotion,’ they got five goals from striker Youssef El-Arabi. The Moroccan can pose a threat, so the Gunners will have to do their due diligence against him.
Olympiakos have four wins and a loss in their last five matches:
0-1 win at PAOK
0-1 home loss vs Arsenal (UEL)
4-0 home win vs Panionios
3-2 home win vs Lamia (Cup)
0-1 win at Atromitos
