EURO 2016 Semi Final Predictions

Thursday sees the start of the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, but who will make it through?

The Euro 2016 quarter-finals start today, with places in the last four of the tournament up for grabs as the next four days see one tie each with the competition stepping up a gear.

Hosts France have been the favourites with the bookmakers since before the start of the European Championship and they are still out in front at odds of around 3/1, with Iceland up next for Didier Deschamps' men.

Germany (3/1) and Italy (7/1) meet in a blockbuster semi-final, the winner of which plays France in the next round, while Belgium, who face Wales, have the shortest odds in the top half of the draw, with a price of just 4/1 available on the Red Devils.

But Poland and Portugal get the quarter-finals under way tonight - so who is going through?

Poland v Portugal

Jakub Blaszczykowski is in fine form for Poland, but star man Robert Lewandowski has yet to score at the finals in four games and they need him to fire after requiring penalties to get through the last round, against Switzerland.

\"Poland

Portugal's leader Cristiano Ronaldo has also had a difficult tournament, missing a penalty against Austria in the group stage, but young talent like Andre Gomes, William Carvalho and Renato Sanches should see the 2004 finalists through to the semi-finals.

Verdict: Portugal to win in extra-time

Wales v Belgium

Belgium gave recovered well after losing their first game at the finals 2-0 to fellow quarter-finalists Italy and Marc Wilmots' side are strong favourites against a Wales team that has done incredibly well to reach the last-eight. However, there is a fear that they perform more as a collection of individuals than as a team, but the brilliance of Eden Hazard could see them through.

\"Wales-vs-belgium-prediction\"

Gareth Bale is undoubtedly the star man in the Wales team, scoring three goals in three group stage matches and also providing the cross Gareth McAuley turned into his own net for Northern Ireland in the last round. But Chris Coleman's men have an unbelievable team spirit and they are far from a one-man band, with the likes of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and captain Ashley Williams having excellent tournaments so far.

Verdict: Belgium to win narrowly

Germany v Italy

This blockbuster clash is the most mouth-watering of the quarter-finals, as the world champions take on the 2012 finalists. Germany have not beaten Italy in eight attempts in major international tournaments but still go into this game as favourites and they are yet to concede at the finals.

\"Germany-vs-italy-prediction\"

Italy knocked out holders Spain in the last round, with a 2-0 win, and Antonio Conte's men will be targeting another scalp. Conte is perhaps the best tactician at Euro 2016, but he could be without key defensive midfielder Daniele De Rossi through injury, which may be decisive.

Verdict: Italy to win in extra-time

France v Iceland

The hosts have made it to the quarter-finals despite being fairly unimpressive so far, with Didier Deschamps' side seeming to struggle under the pressure. But the pressure cranks up again here as they face minnows Iceland at the Stade de France on Sunday. France ought to win, but Iceland shocked England in the last round and will be full of confidence as a result.

\"France-vs-iceland-prediction\"

Iceland have never beaten France, but they had never been to a major international tournament before this year either. Coach Lars Lagerback is likely to name the same starting line-up for the fifth game in a row at Euro 2016 and that stability has been key to Iceland's success at the finals. However, their incredible run looks set to come to an end here.

Verdict: France to win narrowly
