Messi quoted in an interview, "It's not meant for me. For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion,"

The disappointment 29 years old has truly given signs that world might not see the legendary Messi in his signature blue and white Argentinean jersey again, after Copa America 2016.

There is no doubt the missing the penalty shootout not only cost Argentina a major tournament, but also broke the footballer who recently was hailed for surpassing the record of 54 goals landmark by Gabriel Batistuta with his own 55 goals.

While commarade Lucas Bigli too missed a penalty throw which was soon followed by a spot kick scored by Chilean midfielder Francisco Silva, Messi has decided to take the blame of the loss at his end as he opened up about being disappointment with his game.

In his interview he also added, "It's been four finals, I tried. It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn't get it, so I think it's over." He surely is feeling beaten considering he was part of major defeats including 2014 Word Cup final with Germany, the two 2007 Copa America final against Brazil and the consecutive Copa America defeats by Chile

Chile's coach Antonio Pizzi was found quoting in support of Messi, as he said, "Messi’s numbers are unparalleled and I think they’ll remain that way forever, because it’s impossible for a football player to do what Messi has done." He added. "My generation can’t compare him to [Diego] Maradona that’s for my generation, because of what Maradona did for Argentine soccer. But I think the best player ever played today here in the United States.”

Fans are the not only one hoping Messi would reconsider his decision, even Argentinean goal keeper Romero hoped the same, as he said, "I think Leo spoke in the heat of the moment because we missed that great chance,”

This shocker as thrown by Messi is surely not going to be easy for fans who expects to see him in the World Cup, that is only two years from now. Social Media is already full of reactions and surprises, with tweets showing support, disbelief and surprise over Lionel Messi's retirement statement.

We will still have to wait and see if this really was a decision made in heat of moment or is Messi really walking away from international Football ending his era in global format of the game.
