Mexico will win this match.
Mexico and Russia have met just two times before, and both of those came in the nineties. Russia won the first match on August 17, 1992 2-0 and then defeated Mexico 1-4 in the second meeting on February 2, 1994.
%HEAD-TO-HEAD-STATS-BANNER%Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:
Mexico are at 6/5 to win, a draw is at 13/5, and a Russia win is at 2/1.
Both teams to score is set at ¾ for yes and 1/1 for no.
A 1-0 win for Mexico could bring you 14/1 odds if correct at full time.
Mexico are the favored side here as they have a strong pedigree at international level and have a stronger team than the one that Russia can currently put together.
Mexico might just leave it late here, but they really should be winning this match and advancing to the final.
Juan Carlos Osorio will be missing defender Carlos Salcedo after his shoulder injury against New Zealand on Wednesday forced him to be stretchered off the pitch early. Several players have yellow cards. Gio dos Santos, Diego Reyes, and Guardado all will be on the chopping block. It could have been worse, however, after the massive brawl that happened.
Mexico lacked a little bit of, well something, on Wednesday, but it will be hoped that striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez will be the player to bring some of that back. Without him, they never looked like scoring in the first half and for some of the second. And he still never came in, largely due to the rotation policy of Osorio. But that doesn't mean Chicharito has been forgotten as he is the country's highest goal scorer ever. He'll play a role in this match, and it's likely to be a vital and telling one.
Mexico began Group A with a win 2-2 draw against Portugal. They came from behind twice to do so, scoring an injury time equalizer to draw with the European champions. On Wednesday, they faced New Zealand and they won 2-1 after coming from a goal down at half time.
Goalkeeper:Ochoa
Defenders:Diego Reyes, Moreno, Araujo
Midfielders:Guardado, Herrera, Jonathan Dos Santos, Lozano
Forwards:Vela, Aquino, Chicharito
Stanislav Cherchesov will have three players of yellow cards for this match: Samedov, Glushakov, and Jikia all have to walk a tightrope if they want to avoid suspension for a possible semi-final appearance.
There will be moments of pressure against the back line of Russia in this match, and they will be looking toward their captain and very experienced goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to help deal with those moments. Mexico have a great attack when they get going, but the Russians have a great shot stopper in the 31 year old CSKA Moscow man. The captain made a massive save against Portugal where had stopped his momentum and dove back the other way to keep his side in it on Wednesday, and he will likely be needed several times in this match as well.
Russia began the tournament with a routine 2-0 win over New Zealand. The Kiwis didn't threaten very much, but Russia didn't put them to the sword like they could have. On Wednesday, they met Portugal and they lost 0-1 to the European champions. They had a poor first half, but they played better in the second before falling a little short.
Goalkeeper:Akinfeev
Defenders:Vasin, Jikia, Kudryashov
Midfielders:Samedov, Erokhin, Glushakov, Golovin, Zhirkov
Forwards:Smolov, Bukharov
