Drogheda’s 4-1 drubbing against Galway United last weekend was the latest in a string of bad results for the team, and it is hard to see how they are going to get out of this terrible run.
They can not score, they are struggling defensively, and they look devoid of confidence – in stark contrast to St Patrick’s Athletic.
The visitors are putting together a well-timed little run of form which will help them pull clear of the relegation places if they add another win to that on Friday.
Chris Fagan and Conan Byrne are in good goalscoring form for the visitors, both finding the net last time out, and the visitors start as big favourites on Friday.
The worry for Drogheda will be that it will not just be a defeat on Friday, but a big one – a result that would leave them well adrift of safety.
St Patrick’s Athletic are 8/13 favourites with Betfair for Friday’s game at Drogheda, and 17/10 with Ladbrokes to keep Drogheda out in the process, and win to nil.
On that same note, you can bet against both teams to score at a generous evens with Betfair, while you can get 13/8 from Betfair on St Pat’s leading at both half-time and full-time.
A 2-0 away win is priced at 15/2 with Betfair.
Drogheda are in terrible form, and look consigned to finish last in the league – it is hard to see how they can get out of this rut.
New signing Chris Mulhall made his debut up front against Galway United, with Stephen Elliott dropping to the bench, but the former Manchester City striker could return against St Patrick’s, having scored when he came on for Adam Wixted. Gavin Brennan remains sidelined.
Stephen Elliott stepped off the bench to score just his second goal of the season in the defeat to Galway United. Adam Wixted remains their top scorer with just three goals.
Drogheda are without a win in 13 league games now, and have lost four of their last five with only a draw at Sligo Rovers breaking their terrible run of form. They have scored just three goals in their last 11 fixtures, despite scoring in each of the last two.

Midfielders:Hyland, Russell, Byrne, McEvoy

Owen Garvan is suspended for the third and final game since his sending off on his debut, with St Patrick’s likely to be unchanged from last weekend’s 3-1 defeat of Bray.
Chris Fagan scored his seventh goal of the season in last weekend’s 3-1 win at home to Bray Wanderers, while Conan Byrne netted for the sixth time.
League leaders Cork City are the only team to have beaten St Patrick’s Athletic in their last six games – a run which also includes a 1-0 friendly win against Hearts. In competitive fixtures, they drew with Limerick and Galway before their defeat to Cork, but have won both games since – 2-1 at home to Derry City, and 3-1 at home to Bray Wanderers.
