Ath Bilbao vs Getafe CF Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Athletic Bilbao are at ½ to win, a draw is at 3/1, and a Getafe win is at 13/2.

Athletic Bilbao are huge favorites here to win, even if they decide to fully rotate their squad.  Bilbao have a very deep team, contrary to what many may think, and have sometimes left out the likes of Inaki Williams.  He's a huge threat that is a big step up for Getafe.

Getafe will have to deal with almost a brand new team, and that takes a lot of time to bring together.  They've had a shorter preseason due to their long season last term, so that has also done little to help them in that regard.

Bilbao to win and keep a clean sheet sees your odds increase to 13/10.  This shouldn't be passed up here as Getafe will find getting a hold of the ball to be very tough.

Ath Bilbao vs Getafe CF Prediction

Athletic Bilbao should comfortably trot out and get three points come Sunday as they turn their attentions back to Europe.

Correct Score Prediction: Athletic Bilbao 3-0 Getafe

Team News

Jose Angel Ziganda will be without center back Yeray Alvarez, left back Enric Saborit, and midfielders Ander Iturraspe and Mikel Rico due to injuries, or illness, in the case of Alvarez.

Key Man

Inaki Williams came off the bench on Thursday to play for just over 30 minutes, and thus will be sharp to start the season here for Bilbao.  The young striker has attracted attention from all over Europe with his quickness and his skill on the ball, yet he continues to baffle a few with inconsistency.  Still yet, he was in good form in preseason and can pose a very dangerous threat to Getafe.

Team Form

Bilbao have three wins, a draw, and a loss in their last five matches.  They won a friendly against Portugalete 0-2 away before facing Dinamo Bucaresti in the Europa League third round second leg and winning 3-0 at home.  Next came a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in Dublin before a 2-2 draw away to Deportivo Alaves in a friendly.  On Thursday, they faced Panathinaikos in the Europa League playoff round first leg away, and they won 2-3 to give them a great chance of advancing next week in the second leg at home.

Ath Bilbao Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-2-3-1

Athletic Bilbao likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Kepa

  • Defenders:de Marcos, Etxelta, Laporte, Balenziaga

  • Defensive Midfielders:San Jose, Vesga

  • Attacking Midfielders:Merino, Garcia, Munian

  • Forwards:Inaki

Team News

Jose Bordalas will be missing right winger Karim Yoda due to a knee injury.  Bordalas is likely to have nearly a brand new team on the field after signing a raft of players on free transfers, loans, and normal transfers as well.

Key Man

26 year old Spanish midfielder Dani Pacheco, formerly on the books of Liverpool and Atletico, played a key role in promotion last season.  His two goals in the second leg against Tenerife helped them seal a comeback to win 3-2 on aggregate.  And his play in that showed his promise, and gives his boss something to think about ahead of this very season.

Team Form

Getafe have two losses, two draws, and a win in their last five matches.  They won 3-1 against Tenerife in the second leg of the playoff final to get here.  They then began preseason with a 1-1 home draw against Alyocyano and a 2-1 loss at Alcorcon.  They concluded it with a 0-0 draw at home to Atletico and then a 2-1 loss at Albacete.

Getafe Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-5-1

Getafe likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Guaita

  • Defenders:Damian, Cala, Bruno, Atunes

  • Midfielders:Alvaro, Bergara, Portillo, Mora, Pacheco

  • Forwards:Molina

Getafe were forced to scratch and claw to regain their place in La Liga, but in the end they were able to do just that at the first attempt. This match, though, will be a big step up from the level of competition that they faced less than two months ago as they face a talented Athletic Bilbao team. Bilbao do have a new manager, and they are dealing with a Europa League tie, but they still should have more than enough about them to win at home to the new boys Getafe.
Athletic Bilbao have won each of the last six matches over Getafe, dating back to October of 2013.
