West Bromwich Albion might still be top of the league, but the Baggies have hit a bit of a rut with just four points from their last five league games and one win in seven in total.
It includes a 1-1 draw with Leeds on New Year’s Day that kept them top, but the gap has been closed now and Slaven Bilic’s side need to respond.
This is a great opportunity to do just that, however – a local derby against Stoke City, who remain in the relegation battle.
Stoke have returned to form of sorts, taking four points from their two league games so far in 2020, but they are down the bottom of the table with good cause.
Whereas West Brom boast plenty of attacking talent – scoring more than any other team in the Championship so far – Stoke have failed to live up to expectations.
A team packed with typical Championship players does not look like a team readying themselves for a return to the top flight any time soon.
In fact, if they are not careful, they will be going the other way.
Recent improved form shows what they can do, and shows they still have the quality to stay in the Championship before rebuilding next season.
But they are big outsiders for this one – West Brom need to cut out the mistakes and get back to winning ways, but they are more than capable of doing just that.
Since the two came down together from the Premier League, West Brom have won all three matches they have played against Stoke. This should make it four in a row.
West Brom are odds-on favourites to win at home to Stoke City, with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Betway all offering 17/20 on a home win.
West Brom have scored more goals than any other team in the Championship this season, and over 2.5 goals will return 10/11 with Bet365.
Having struggled to hold leads lately, however, West Brom to win and both teams to score will return a best price of 14/5 with 888sport.
For West Brom, Charlie Austin is 13/8 to score at any time with Betfair and Paddy Power, but Kenneth Zohore netted in the last two matches and he can be backed at 7/4 to score at any time with Bet365.
West Bromwich Albion need to get back to winning ways after too many draws of late, but the division’s top scorers can get back on track against struggling Stoke.
Slaven Bilic is keen to add to the West Brom squad, admitting interest in Mislav Orsic and Martin Olsson, but the Baggies could be unchanged to face Stoke City. Kenneth Zohore has started up front in place of Charlie Austin lately, scoring in both matches against Charlton.
Matheus Pereira – As well as scoring five goals this season, the Brazilian has laid on ten assists for his team-mates too.
Matt Phillips – His assist for Hal Robson-Kanu last time out was his fifth of the season and he has scored seven times too.
Kenneth Zohore – Goals in both games against Charlton staked his claim for more starting chances.
West Brom started the New Year with a 1-1 draw with title rivals Leeds United – Semi Ajayi scoring for both teams – and then beat Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup thanks to Kenneth Zohore’s goal. They drew with the Addicks in the league, however, and they have now gone five league games without a win. Zohore opened the scoring and Hal Robson-Kanu also netted, but Charlton twice hit back.
Thibaud Verlinden and Lee Gregory were late substitutes against Millwall, while Tom Ince was unused. Stoke could stick with the same starting XI, however, after a solid goalless draw.
Tyrese Campbell – The highly-rated forward scored twice in Stoke’s win against Huddersfield and Michael O’Neill will be keen for more of the same.
Nick Powell – A classic Championship player, who can control the midfield but also chip in with goals and assists too.
Sam Vokes – The Welsh international is Stoke’s big target man and his power and physicality can cause problems up front.
Stoke City started the New Year with a 5-2 win away to Huddersfield Town – Tyrese Campbell scoring twice and Sam Vokes, Nick Powell and Lee Gregory also finding the target. They have not scored since, however – suffering a 1-0 defeat at Brentford in the FA Cup and drawing 0-0 at home to Millwall last time out.
