Liverpool

Our Prediction Tip

Liverpool will win this match.

Liverpool have won 21 of their 30 previous matches against Watford, with five Hornets wins and four draws. Last year’s match at Vicarage Road was one of those draws, however – Miguel Britos equalising in the final minute in a thrilling 3-3. Stefano Okaka had given Watford the lead before Sadio Mane’s equaliser but Abdoulaye Doucoure ensured Watford led at half-time. Roberto Firmino’s penalty brought things level and Mo Salah made it 3-2 before Britos’ last-minute intervention. Their most recent match, at Anfield, was much more one-sided, however – Salah scoring four in a 5-0 Liverpool win, with Firmino netting the other. Here are the results of their last five competitive matches:

17/03/2018: Liverpool 5-0 Watford

12/08/2017: Watford 3-3 Liverpool

01/05/2017: Watford 0-1 Liverpool
06/11/2016: Liverpool 6-1 Watford

08/05/2016: Liverpool 2-0 Watford

WAT vs LFC Betting Tips

Both Watford and Liverpool made superb starts to the Premier League season but, whereas Liverpool have continued and remain unbeaten in the league, the Hornets have struggled of late.

Just two wins in nine now has seen them drop to seventh and a home tie against Liverpool promises to be another tough game.

Alongside their poor recent results, Watford have only ever won five of their 30 previous matches against Liverpool.

Last time out, it was the Mo Salah show for the Reds – four goals in a 5-0 win for the Egyptian epitomising his form last year.

This season, he has got back in the goals of late and is Liverpool’s top scorer again. And it is happening in front a vastly improved defence too – Alisson conceding just five goals in 12 league games since arriving from Roma for a world-record fee.

In front of Alisson is the rock solid, in-form Virgil van Dijk with Joe Gomez making the centre-back spot alongside him his own too.

Watford, with injury doubts up the pitch, will find Troy Deeney, Andre Gray and/or Isaac Success fighting a losing battle against the Liverpool defence.

And if Mo Salah rips through Watford’s rearguard at the other end again, the hosts will be in trouble. Liverpool need to keep the heat on Manchester City and only a win will truly do that.

Liverpool vs Watford Recommended bets with odds

You can back Liverpool to beat Watford at a best price of 5/9 with 10Bet and the Reds’ excellent defensive record makes them 7/4 with Ladbrokes to win the game to nil.

Sticking with the Liverpool defence, a Liverpool clean sheet returns a best price of 7/5 with Ladbrokes and you can bet against both teams to score at 11/10 with the same bookmakers.

Watford’s dip in form is ominous, particularly as they are welcoming an old destroyer to Vicarage Road, namely Mo Salah after his four goals in one game last season.

Salah is 10/11 to score at any time with Betway and Ladbrokes.

Watford vs Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool are favourites to beat Watford and for good reason, with the Hornets’ form having dropped off after a bright start to the season.

Correct Score Prediction: Watford 0-2 Liverpool

Watford Team News

Daryl Janmaat is closing in on a return from a knee injury but Sebastian Prodl, Tom Cleverley and Will Hughes will all miss out. Nathaniel Chalobah returned to the starting line-up in place of Etienne Capoue prior to the international break, while Troy Deeney was back on the bench and could replace Isaac Success up top.

Watford Key Players

Roberto Pereyra – The Argentine attacking midfielder has five goals to his name so far this season, from 12 appearances.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – Four assists so far this season puts him joint-top of the pile for the Hornets and he will be a solid presence in the middle too.
Jose Holebas – The full-back has two goals and four assists so far this season, proving he is a threat at the opposite end of the pitch.

Watford Team Form

After a strong start to the season things have, once again, fizzled out for Watford – who have now won just two of their last nine games. Those wins were a 2-0 victory at Wolves, with Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra scoring, and 3-0 at home to Huddersfield – Pereyra opening the scoring before goals for Gerard Deulofeu and Isaac Success. A 1-0 defeat at Newcastle followed before the 1-1 draw with Southampton last time out – Jose Holebas snatching a late equaliser.

Watford Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Liverpool Team News

Jordan Henderson is a slight doubt with a thigh injury but long-term absentee Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the only other player missing for Liverpool. It leaves Jurgen Klopp with several selection decisions to make, though the indication is that Joe Gomez will continue at centre-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. James Milner could be set to return in the midfield three in place of Xherdan Shaqiri while Naby Keita is fit again – which could end Fabinho’s first run in the team in the Premier League.

Liverpool Key Players

Mo Salah – The Egyptian striker’s goalscoring form has returned and he has weighed in with eight goals so far this season. He put four past Watford in one game last year.
Sadio Mane – The Senegalese winger has seven goals from 16 games so far this season, as well as an assist.
Andrew Robertson – The Scottish wing-back has set up more goals than any of his team-mates this season with five assists to his name.

Liverpool Team Form

Liverpool bounced back from a small blip by beating Fulham 2-0 last time out – Mo Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri settling the nerves with early goals. It followed a 2-0 defeat away to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and a 1-1 draw at Arsenal – James Milner scoring in the latter. Liverpool have not played away in the league since October, when they beat Huddersfield 1-0.

Liverpool Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

No side in the top half of the Premier League has scored less goals than Watford (17) so far this season, while Liverpool share the joint-best defensive record with Manchester City. The Hornets could therefore struggle to break down the Liverpool defence - and the Reds have the firepower to make them pay at the other end.
Liverpool are unbeaten with nine wins and three draws in their 12 Premier League games this season.
