Watford have only beat Chelsea once since the turn of the century, but that win did come at Vicarage Road in February last year. Last season, however, Chelsea won home and away and their next victory against the Hornets will be their 20th in this fixture. Eden Hazard scored twice, either side of Roberto Pereyra’s equaliser, as Chelsea won 2-1 at Watford last season, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuain scored second-half goals as the Blues won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in May.

Winless Watford have stopped the rot in the Premier League with three consecutive draws, but with no attacking prowess to speak of their winless run looks set to go on.
Chelsea, on the other hand, come into this game in great form – albeit after seeing their seven-match winning streak ended in the Carabao Cup by Manchester United.
Christian Pulisic’s hat-trick last weekend added him to the list of in-form young Chelsea attacking players – with Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount having already taken their opportunities this season.
Frank Lampard has managed to get the most out of several key young players now – Fikayo Tomori and Callum Hudson-Odoi can also be added to that list – with all of them seizing their opportunity this season.
Chelsea’s transfer ban could have hit them hard, but it has instead allowed Lampard to dip into his vast reserves of young talent and it has paid off so far.
Against a Watford team offering little to nothing going forward, the Blues need to get on the front foot early but, if they do, they are very much favourites to win this one comfortably.

Watford are still looking for a first league win of the season and Chelsea’s recent form suggests this will not be the game to end that run. The Blues can win this one comfortably.
Isaac Success is back in training but did not feature in the Carabao Cup defeat at Everton. Tom Cleverley, Domingos Quina, Ismaila Sarr, Danny Welbeck and Troy Deeney are all sidelined, but Etienne Capoue could return.
Gerard Deulofeu – The Hornets lack goals and the tricky Spaniard looks the most likely of Watford’s attacking options to be able to break that duck.
Roberto Pereyra – Scored at home to Chelsea last season and has found himself deployed as a striker in recent matches too.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – Scored Watford’s only goal in the last five matches and has popped up with some useful strikes in the middle of midfield this season.
After three consecutive league draws at least put points in the board for Watford, even if they only scored once in that time, their mini unbeaten run was ended by a 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Everton in mid-week. Watford’s only goal in their last five games was Abdoulaye Doucoure’s early strike in the draw at Tottenham. Either side, they drew blanks in draws with Sheffield United and Bournemouth.
N’Golo Kante is close to a return but it seems unlikely he will be rushed back with bigger games on the immediate horizon. The Frenchman is one of six players on the Chelsea injury list but Andreas Christensen (hamstring) and Ross Barkley (ankle) could be fit to play at Vicarage Road. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is definitely out, while Emerson and Antonio Rudiger remain sidelined too.
Christian Pulisic – Has had to remain patient so far this season, but the rising American star proved his credentials with a ‘perfect’ hat-trick in the win against Burnley.
Tammy Abraham – Set up Willian’s goal at Turf Moor at the weekend, and will be keen to get back to his own fine goalscoring form of earlier in the campaign.

Chelsea’s seven-match winning streak was ended by Manchester United in the Carabao Cup in mid-week, despite Michy Batshuayi’s goal in a 2-1 defeat, but Chelsea remain in good form. Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick and Willian netted the other in a 4-2 win at Burnley in their last league game, while they beat Ajax 1-0 in the Champions League before that – Batshuayi with the only goal of the gane.
