Following Union Berlin’s promotion to the top flight for this season, they travelled to face Bayern Munich in October. Robert Lewandowski scored for a record-breaking ninth consecutive league match after Benjamin Pavard’s opener, and Bayern held on to go top of the league despite Sebastian Polter pulling a goal back.
Bayern Munich were in supreme form before the season was suspended, stretching their lead at the top of the table to four points before lockdown.

Union Berlin have suffered a number of setbacks ahead of the restart, with Sheraldo Becker out injured, Marvin Friedrich suspended following his red card at Freiburg and Sebastian Andersson and Akaki Gogia both doubtful too. Robert Lewandowski is one of the more high-profile players for whom the season’s suspension came at a good time. The Polish striker has had time to recover from injury as a result. Niklas Sule still needs more time, however, and Philippe Coutinho and Corentin Tolisso are also sidelined.
Robert Lewandowski – The striker’s return from injury is an unexpected boost after lockdown cut down the games he was expected to miss. His next goal will be his 40th of the season.
Serge Gnabry – The winger has 18 goals to his name this season and has also supplied 11 assists to prove his worth.
Thomas Muller – The experienced striker has scored ten goals while his next assist will be his 20th of the season.
Bayern Munich have won their last six consecutive matches, keeping clean sheets in each of the last four. Their only two matches in March were a 1-0 cup win at Schalke – Joshua Kimmich scoring the goal – and a 2-0 home victory against Augsburg as Thomas Muller and Leon Goretzka struck.
