Our Prediction Tip

Draw will win this match.

There are only two previous meetings between Turkey and Russia on record, with Russia having come out on top in both of those games. Both matches were also won by a 1-0 scoreline, so this international friendly is not likely to feature a lot of goal action.

Turkey v Russia: Prediction

Terim's wide-ranging changes to his squad might well have a galvanising impact on the group, although there is a lack of experience in the team and they could miss the attacking class and quality in the box provided by Arda and Yilmaz. For Russia, this is the start of their building towards the 2018 World Cup and performances will be more prized than results at this stage as Cherchesov begins to learn about his players. A close match with little action seems inevitable.

Turkey v Russia: Betting Tips

Odds of 6/4 on Turkey to beat Russia in this international friendly represent decent value, while the head-to-head record being in favour of Russia means a case can be made for backing them here at 11/5. However, the best value on the match odds market could be the 23/10 for a draw.

Under 2.5 goals is at a low price of 27/40 but looks certain to come in, while betting against both teams to score appears likely to be profitable at odds of 17/20. Given Russia have beaten Turkey 1-0 on both their previous meetings, 1-0 Russia on the correct scoreline market appeals at 15/1.

Turkey coach Fatih Terim has dropped a clutch of big names after the country was poor at Euro 2016, with Arda Turan and Burak Yilmaz both ditched. Selcuk Inan, Gokhan Gonul, Hakan Balta and Caner Erkin have also been left out of the squad by Terim. Teenage Manchester City forward Enes Unal is in line to play after hitting a hat-trick on loan at Twente in the Eredivisie last week.

Turkey likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Babacan

  • Defenders:- Oguz, Calik, Aziz, Ozbayrakli

  • Midfielders:- Calhanoglu, Topal, Ozyakup, Sahin, Mor

  • Forwards:- Unal

Russia's ageing squad was badly exposed at Euro 2016, leading to Stanislav Cherchesov being appointed as the new coach of the national team.

Cherchesov's side will qualify automatically for the 2018 World Cup as the hosts of the tournament, but they will need improvement if they are to make an impact on the competition. Artem Dzyuba remains the star name in the Russia squad and he is likely to play up front as a lone striker against Turkey. Alan Dzagoev returns to the set-up after missing Euro 2016 injured.

Russia likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Akinfeev

  • Defenders:- Shishkin, Semenov, V Berezutski, Novoseltsev

  • Midfielders:- Dzagoev, Shatov, Zhirkov, Petrov, Miranchuk

  • Forwards:- Dzyuba

Both of these teams were very poor at Euro 2016 and this is a chance to see how much, if any, progress has been made since that tournament. Turkey have made more radical changes to their squad than Russia, who have more experience, but home advantage must also been considered. Few goals are likely and a low-scoring draw appears on the cards.
Turkey have not scored against Russia in either of their two matches in this fixture.
