Spurs win in the league fixture between these two teams at Wembley in November was their 53rd against Chelsea – and second consecutive 3-1 defeat of the Blues – but it is the visitors who maintain the better record with 68 wins and 40 draws. Dele Alli – who scored twice at Stamford Bridge in Spurs’ 3-1 win in April – opened the scoring last time out, before Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min put the hosts in a commanding position. Olivier Giroud’s late goal proved nothing more than a consolation.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and now have another big London rival, Chelsea, in their way of a domestic cup final.
Spurs ended their recent Wembley hoodoo against Chelsea with a 3-1 win in the league back in November – Dele Alli continuing his good scoring form in this fixture, having also netted twice in a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge in April.
It gives Spurs the advantage ahead of the first leg of this semi-final, where they will look to continue their stunning attacking form of late.
Putting seven past League Two Tranmere in the FA Cup was eye-catching but proved the gulf in quality between the two teams. Nevertheless, it is now 22 goals in their last five games – and that run includes a 3-1 home defeat to Wolves too.
Son Heung-Min’s continued availability is a huge boost and the South Korean can not stop scoring lately – and neither can Harry Kane – both continuing their good form in the win at Tranmere.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have relied heavily on Eden Hazard’s goals and a tight defence in recent weeks.
The goalless draw with Southampton highlighted their recent frustrations in front of goal, though Alvaro Morata at least got back to goalscoring ways – albeit after a frustrating first half – with a second-half double against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The key, however, will be if Maurizio Sarri’s disciplined defence can nullify the threat of Spurs’ free-scoring attacking players.
On the evidence of the most recent league game between the two teams, however, they could not – and Spurs can earn themselves a first-leg lead before they head to Stamford Bridge for the return fixture in a fortnight.

Tottenham Hotspur have been in fine goalscoring form of late and a home win against Chelsea – as they managed in the league in November – will set them up well in this Carabao Cup tie.
Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele are both back in training and targeting this game for a return from thigh and ankle injuries respectively. Spurs had the luxury of rotating players for their FA Cup third round win at Tranmere, and the likes of Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen could also return to the starting line-up. Serge Aurier recovered from injury to score twice at Prenton Park, but Kieran Trippier will be targeting a return at right-back. Son Heung-Min is still available, as he is yet to set off to join South Korea at the Asian Cup.
Harry Kane – Maintained his goalscoring form by coming off the bench to net against Tranmere – his sixth goal in his last five games.
Christian Eriksen – The Danish playmaker set up the first two goals in the win against Chelsea when the teams last met in November.
Son Heung-Min – Having negotiated for the South Korean to stay a little longer before heading to the Asian Cup, Spurs will hope he can maintain his excellent scoring form.
Tottenham have won six of their last seven matches, with their only defeat coming in their last home game – a surprise 3-1 defeat to Wolves after Harry Kane had opened the scoring. They had scored 11 goals in their two previous games – beating Everton 6-2 and Bournemouth 5-0 – and have netted ten times without reply in two games since. Spurs bounced back with a 3-0 win at Cardiff, with Kane, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min scoring, and then thrashed Tranmere 7-0 in the FA Cup – Fernando Llorente scored a hat-trick, Serge Aurier scored twice and Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min also netted.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss out with a back injury sustained in the FA Cup third-round win against Nottingham Forest. The Blues are likely to field a strong starting line-up, meaning returns for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Matteo Kovacic, Eden Hazard and Willian after being rested for the FA Cup win against Forest. Alvaro Morata’s two goals in that match could mean he starts, however.

Chelsea have won three and drawn one since their defeat to Leicester just before Christmas. Eden Hazard scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Watford on Boxing Day, while N’Golo Kante was the goalscorer in a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace. They were frustrated in their most recent home game – a goalless draw with Southampton. Alvaro Morata scored twice in a 2-0 defeat of Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup last time out.
