Our Prediction Tip

Poland will win this match.

Switzerland have a desperately poor record against Poland, winning only one of their 10 meetings against Saturday's opponents. While two of the last three games between the sides have been draws, Poland won 4-0 in a friendly back in 2001 and they also came out on top in the last competitive matches against Switzerland, winning 2-0 home and away in qualifying for the 1980 European Championship.

Switzerland v Poland: Prediction

Poland have done enough so far but they need to step up a gear now the European Championship has entered its next phase. The top half of the draw looks wide open for Poland to have a good run but they need to see more from striker Robert Lewandowski if they are to go far. Switzerland lack a goal threat and that is likely to see them exit the tournament here.

Switzerland v Poland: Betting Tips

Poland are favourites at 7/4 and those odds look good value considering the relative merits of the two teams, with Switzerland's odds of 9/4 not very tempting due to their problems in attack. The draw is worth considering at around the 2/1 mark, but the best bets for this game could from the goals market. Under 2.5 goals is priced up at 4/9 - short odds but the bet is very likely to come in - while even under 1.5 goals, available at 6/5, may be worth a look too.

Switzerland were unbeaten throughout the group stage, but they will be outsiders for this knock-out game against Poland. A lack of goals has been the main problem for the Swiss, who have only scored twice in their three matches at Euro 2016 so far, although defensively they have been very sound, conceding only once.

Fabian Schar is a key man for Switzerland, with the defender strong at the back and a major threat from set pieces - he scored the only goal of the game against Albania. Xherdan Shaqiri has failed to meet expectations so far, but he is likely to get another chance to impress here.

Switzerland likely XI:

Sommer, Lichtsteiner, Schar, Djourou, Rodriguez, Behrami, Xhaka, Shaqiri, Dzemaili, Mehmedi, Embolo.

Poland are also unbeaten heading into the next phase of Euro 2016, with a pair of 1-0 wins and a 0-0 draw ensuring Adam Nawalka's men moved through the group stage without too many problems. However, the underwhelming form of captain and star man Robert Lewandowski is a concern, as he is yet to score at the finals and has looked tired at times.

A resilient defence has ensured Poland have yet to concede at Euro 2016, even keeping out world champions Germany, and their back line will be tough for the shot-shy Swiss to breach, with Kamil Glik particularly outstanding so far. Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is expected to continue in goal as first choice Wojciech Szczesny is still struggling with injury.

Poland likely XI:

Fabianski, Piszczek, Glik, Pazdan, Jedrzejczyk, Zielinski, Krychowiak, Jodlowiec, Kapustka, Lewandowski, Milik.

Poland have good strength in depth and they have arguably had the best defence in the tournament so far, although Switzerland have also been good at the back. This is likely to be a close match with few clear-cut chances and it is time for Lewandowski to step up and make the difference for his team. Poland to win 1-0.
Switzerland have only ever beaten Poland once, losing this fixture five times and drawing four.
