Sweden vs Romania Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Sweden are at 8/11 to win, a draw is at 5/2, and a Romania win is at 4/1.

Sweden kick off European Championship qualification at home, and that is right where they will want to be.  Dating back to 2006, they have only lost once on their home pitch in Euro qualifiers, with that match coming against Austria back in 2015.  It’s been a strong run to say the least, and it’s why they consistently are able to make it to both Euros and the World Cup.  As for recent times, the Swedes are in middling kind of form.  They did make it to the World Cup quarterfinals, to be fair, but over the last year that have had their ups and downs with five wins, five draws, and seven losses in all competitions.  They did win their Nations League group, Group B2, so they will be at the top of the table next time around in that comp.

Romania, meanwhile, are going to enter this match in a much better mood than you might think.  They did finish second in Group C4 of the Nations League, and thus won’t be getting promoted to League B, but they are still getting much better of late and have to count themselves in with a chance of making it to the Euros next summer.  This is a team that has struggled for a while since they have a good little run back pre-2010, but they looked to have come out of it now with some fine footballers.  In their last year of action, they have yet to lose.  They’ve won seven times and drawn three, all of them coming either in friendlies or in the UNL.  Three draws in that comp kept them from top spot in the end, so that’s the only negative to be seen for them ahead of this match.

Betfair have no for both teams scoring at 1.6.

Under 1.5 goals, via Ladbrokes, is at 13/8.

Sweden vs Romania Prediction

It’s not going to be an easy win for Sweden, by any means, but a win from them looks to be very much on the cards.  Romania will look to get a valuable point on the road, but their hosts have just enough to pry them open to collect the points.

Correct Score Prediction: Sweden 1-0 Romania

Sweden Team News

Janne Andersson will have a major miss in the form of center back Victor Lindelof.  The Manchester United man has pulled out of the team, and along with him, fellow defender Pontus Jansson and midfielder Jakob Johansson will also be among those that are unavailable to feature.

Sweden Key Man

He may not be the most well known player in the game, but Viktor Claesson deserves some more plaudits than he gets. The striker had two assists in the World Cup to help his team reach the last eight and also grabbed a goal in the Nations League to help them secure promotion.  Marcus Berg, his strike partner is another to keep tabs on.  The Al Ain striker has scored 19 times in 67 caps for his country, and he’ll look to extend that record against the Romanians.

Sweden Team Form

Sweden have two draws, two wins, and a loss in their last five matches:

2-2 home draw vs Iceland (Fri)
0-1 home loss vs Finland (Fri)
2-0 home win vs Russia (UNL)
0-1 win at Turkey (UNL)
1-1 home draw vs Slovakia

Sweden Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Romania Team News

Cosmin Contra has a number of injuries that will prevent him from fielding his best possible team here.  Center back Vlad Chiriches, midfielders Mihai Pintilli and Constantin Budescu, and forwards Florin Andone and George Tucudean are all set to miss out on this beginning round of qualifiers.

Romania Key Man

With a lot of big names out, Romania have to work hard to pick up the slack here.  Attacking midfielder Claudiu Keseru is one such man that can help in that endeavor.  The 32 year old has seven goals in 31 caps for his nation, and they will hope he can add to that total here.  Another midfielder that offers a lot of strong play is Nicolae Stanciu.  The Al Alhi man has scored ten goals in just 28 appearances for the Romanians at 25 years of age, and he can be the key to unlocking what is typically a very stubborn Swedish side.

Romania Team Form

Romania have three wins and two draws in their last five matches:

0-1 win at Montenegro (UNL)
3-0 home win vs Lithuania (UNL)
0-0 home draw vs Serbia (UNL)
1-2 win at Lithuania (UNL)
2-2 draw at Serbia (UNL)

Romania Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Romania do come into this fixture in great form, but they will find matters very tough in Sweden. The Swedes are perennial qualifiers, mastering the art of getting to a big tournament. While this might be the year they miss out, it's not likely. They have figured out how to win at home and create a steady platform for progression, and that's what they should be doing here to begin Group F with a win over Romania.
Romania are unbeaten in the past year of action, winning seven and drawing three times in ten outings.
