Sevilla and Manchester United last met in the last 16 of the 2017-18 Champions League, when Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice at Old Trafford in a 2-1 away win as the Spanish side went through by the same scoreline on aggregate.
On reputations, on past performances in this competition and on form in the latter half of their respective domestic seasons, both these teams would make worthy finalists.
Instead, they face each other in a one-off semi-final tie that really could go either way.
Sevilla’s recent winning form – extending their long unbeaten streak – makes them a team to look out for, particularly the defensive form on which that is built.
But United have also hit form of their own – and they may feel they still have a point to prove after finishing third in the league and losing in the last-four of both domestic cups too.
This is their fourth top-four finish in four competitions this season then, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will want to end the season with silverware and this is a big chance.
They know not to write Sevilla off – the Spaniards’ Europa League record speaks for itself and they beat United in their last European knock-out tie.
But United, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes at the forefront, so often find a way to win – something they have rediscovered under Solskjaer.
As hard as it is to back against Sevilla, the bookmakers are leaning towards Manchester United and you can see why on the balance of it.
Manchester United are 6/4 favourites to beat Sevilla with Bet365 and 888sport.
While both have enjoyed spells of good defensive form, both teams have goals in them too and both teams to score is 19/20 with Bet365 and 10Bet.

Bruno Fernandes’ penalty was the difference in United’s semi-final and his set pieces make him always a tempting choice. He is 12/5 with 888sport to score at any time and that is very generous really.
Both teams are in excellent form so this one really could go either way. United’s form in 2020 suggests there is silverware on the way though – so why not the Europa League?
With Yassine Bounou still in goal, Sevilla could be unchanged from their win against Wolves in the quarter-final.
Lucas Ocampos – His late, late winner against Wolves in the last round was his 17th of the season as Sevilla booked Wolves.
Diego Carlos – Another clean sheet last time out, with the centre-back a key part of this in-form defensive unit.
Youssef En-Nesyri – Moved to ten for the season with his goal against Roma and likely to be up front again.
Sevilla’s quarter-final win against Wolves was their seventh in their last eight matches and took them to 19 matches unbeaten. Since the end of the La Liga season, they have beaten Roma 2-0 and Wolves 1-0 in the Europa League – Lucas Ocampos’ late goal the difference last time out.
Sergio Romero kept his place in goal last time out, but United were otherwise close to full strength again – Eric Bailly in for Victor Lindelof being perhaps the only other unexpected change. Lindelof finished that game and could start this one.
Mason Greenwood – This tournament helped the young forward excel earlier in the campaign and he now has 18 goals for the season in all competitions.
Bruno Fernandes – Kept his cool from the penalty spot to score the winner last time out and continue the incredible impact he has had seen signing.
Marcus Rashford – An injury-hit season has not stopped the England striker reaching 23 goals in all competitions this season.
United have been less convincing in their two Europa League matches at the end of this season. Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial scored as they came from 1-0 down to beat LASK 2-1, while Bruno Fernandes’ extra-time penalty was the only goal of the game in their 1-0 semi-final win against Copenhagen.
