Bayern Munich will win this match.
There can’t be many teams that Bayern don’t dominate in German football, and Schalke is certainly another to add to the list. In 96 meetings, it is the reigning Bundesliga champions that have triumphed on 50 occasions, with 27 draws and 19 defeats.
Bayern’s dominance continues in matches played at Gelsenkirchen too; they have lost just once in fifteen encounters.

Other than a draw in August 2014, Bayern’s recent trips to Schalke have yielded the following victories: 3-1, 4-0, 5-0, 2-0 and 2-0. Hopefully that sets the scene for what is to come here. Schalke impressed many with their performances in 2015/16, but they simply seem to have a meltdown when the champions are in town. Okay, so they finished just five places apart in the league table, but look at the actual gulf in class: 36 points, and some +61 in goal difference. They are worlds apart.
Bayern lost just one of seventeen away matches in 2015/16, while Schalke won less than half of their home games (8/17). There really is little for their supporters to get excited about here.
The average margin of victory for Bayern in games against Schalke has been three goals, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we witness something similar on Friday evening.
Clearly Bayern are untouchable at a price as short as 2/7, but with a -1 handicap – and we have outlined above why that is so attractive – we can get odds of 4/5 and those are very attractive indeed.
We’re happy to take the Evens about Both Teams Scoring – No, given that Schalke have scored two goals in their last six games against Bayern at Gelsenkirchen. They scored 28 goals at home last season too, compare that to Bayern’s 51, and so it would take a moment of brilliance for them to beat Manuel Neuer here you’d wager.
A disappointing 0-1 reverse at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt was not the way that Schalke wanted to start a campaign in which they were quietly fancied by many to at least mirror their fifth place finish from last season. Leroy Sane has gone but transfer deadline day replacement Yevhen Konoplyanka is a seriously talented young man.

It was same old, same old for Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga opener: a crushing 6-0 win over Werder Bremen. Carlo Ancelotti has taken over from Pep Guardiola and started where his predecessor left off, with Bayern dominating.
