Our Prediction Tip

Spain will win this match.

Romania and Spain have not met competitively since Euro 1996. They have played three friendlies since, however, the most recent of which was a goalless draw in March 2016. They have each won five of their 16 previous meetings in total, with six draws.

ROU vs ESP Betting Tips

Spain have been forced into another managerial change after Luis Enrique stepped down to his late daughter’s illness in the summer.

Robert Moreno is the new man in the hot seat, and his first job has been picking a squad despite a long injury list.

What he has come up with, however, is a team packed with quality at both ends of the pitch – Paco Alcacer is among the players added and he will be key up front.

Equally important will be the defence, given Romania have scored ten times in their last three games. Clearly, Claudiu Kesuru and George Puscas need to be watched carefully.

But the Spanish defence, led by Sergio Ramos and with either David de Gea or Kepa Arrizabalaga behind them, should keep them quiet.

Spain’s qualification record is outstanding and they can maintain that with yet another win which would put them firmly in control of this group.

Romania may have impressed of late, but this is their toughest challenge in the group and they lost to the other top team, Sweden, at the start of the campaign.

Spain, even with a much-changed squad due to injuries, are more than capable of coming away with all three points.

Romania Team News

Alexandru Chipciu’s sending off in the dominant win against Malta, in which he scored, last time out means he will miss the match through suspension. Dragos Grigore his back from his ban, however. Fit-again Florin Andone has been recalled, but defender Nicusor Bancu has withdrawn from the squad injured.

Romania Key Players

Claudiu Keseru – Scored five goals in the first three qualifiers to prove he is a danger man up front for the Romanians.
George Puscas – Took his tally to three goals in four games last time out, with the first two goals in the 4-0 win against Malta.
Vlad Chiriches – The experienced centre-back will need to be on top of his game leading the defence if they are to stand any chance of keeping Spain out.

Romania Team Form

Romania have taken seven points from their last three games, beating the Faroe Islands and Malta either side of a 2-2 draw with Norway. Claudiu Kesuru scored twice in a 4-1 win against the Faroe Islands and the draw with Norway, while George Puscas scored twice in a 4-0 defeat of Malta before Alexandru Chipciu – who was later sent off – and Dennis Man also scored.

Romania Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Spain Team News

Among the many players missing from the squad selected in the summer are Santi Cazorla, Alvaro Morata, Marco Asensio, Iago Aspas and Isco. Dani Ceballos has been recalled, however, and Unai Nunez and Pablo Sarabia could make their first appearances. There are also recalls for Saul, Thiago Alcantara, Suso and Paco Alcacer.

Spain Key Players

Paco Alcacer – Alvaro Morata’s injury gives the Dortmund striker another chance up front – he was in good form in Germany last season and has scored three times in his two Spain appearances in 2018.
Sergio Ramos – Scored in both games in June to take his international tally to 20 goals in 165 appearances. One of the old guard to have stayed in the squad.
Rodrigo – One goal so far in qualifying, but he has proved his worth up front with five goals in 18 appearances so far.

Spain Team Form

Spain have won their last five matches in a row, including all four European qualifiers. Sergio Ramos netted in both wins in June – a 4-1 win in the Faroe Islands and a 3-0 home win against Sweden. All three goals last time out were in the second half, with Ramos and Alvaro Morata scoring penalties and Mikel Oyarzabal adding the third.

Spain Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Spain already find themselves five points clear in Group F after four wins from four so far and while further managerial change, in what was eventually tragic circumstances for former manager Luis Enrique, was not in the plan it is hard to see them losing their 100 per cent record.
In a run stretching back to 2007, Spain have won 25 of their last 26 European Championship qualifying matches.
