Our Prediction Tip

Romania will win this match.

Romania and Lithuania have met 12 times before, with Romania’s 2-1 win last month representing their 11th victory in this fixture. Lithuania’s sole win came in as 2010 World Cup qualifier, but Romania won the reverse fixture, triumphed again in a 2016 friendly as Nicolae Stanciu scored the only goal, and last month secured a dramatic late win in Vilnius. Alexandra Chipciu’s early goal looked as though it would be the winner until Arturas Zulpa equalised in the 90th minute, but Romania went back up the other end and scored an even later winning goal thanks to Alexandru Maxim.

ROU vs LTU Betting Tips

Romania are unbeaten so far in the UEFA Nations League but they need to start turning draws into wins.

That said, their one win so far was against Lithuania and now, with home advantage, they should double up against a team who have lost their last six in a row.

Romania have also won 12 of their 13 previous games against Lithuania and, while Gabriel Tamas and Razvan Marin are suspended they are otherwise near full strength for this match.

They have been difficult to score against, holding on for 50 minutes with ten men against Serbia, and that does not bode well for a Lithuania side not known for their goalscoring feats.

They left it late to beat Lithuania last time they played, almost throwing it away when they conceded a late equaliser, but the win keeps them in contention for promotion from the third tier.

While still dependent on other results going their way too, Romania simply have to win this game to stand any chance of putting their unbeaten run to good use with success in their UEFA Nations League group.

They really should be winning this one and, while they made hard work of it last time, they are favourites for good reason – they should win to nil to stay in contention for top spot.

Lithuania vs Romania Recommended bets with odds

Romania are 3/10 favourites to beat Lithuania with Bet365 and Betway and even that is a generous price considering their expected dominance.

After clean sheets in their two previous home games, that improves to 8/11 with Bet365 if you back them to win to nil.

Alexandru Maxim scored the stoppage-time winner when they last met, and he is 57/17 with 10Bet to score at any time again. If Claudiu Keseru leads the line, he will be the dangerman, however – he is 11/8 with Betfair and Paddy Power to find the net.

Romania have hardly been prolific in front of goal either, however, and you can get 4/5 from Betfair on there being under 2.5 goals.

Romania vs Lithuania Prediction

Romania have won 12 of their 13 previous matches against Lithuania, who have also lost their last six games in a row in all competitions. This should only end with a home win.

Correct Score Prediction: Romania 2-0 Lithuania

Romania Team News

Alex Pascanu and Ianis Hagi are the two uncapped players in Romania’s squad, while Alexandru Chipciu has returned after missing the Serbia game through suspension. Andrei Ivan has withdrawn through injury, and veteran defender Gabriel Tamas is suspended after his red card against Serbia. Razvan Marin is suspended for the Lithuania game too, after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament against them.

Romania Key Players

Alexandru Chipciu – Back available after suspension, having scored the opening goal when these teams last met.
Alexandru Maxim – His fourth international goal earned a dramatic late win when the two teams met in Lithuania.
Nicolae Stanciu – His penalty in Serbia was the ninth goal of his international career, having made 26 senior Romania appearances.

Romania Team Form

Romania are still yet to lose in 2018, but they have drawn three of their four UEFA Nations League matches. Their sole win was away to Lithuania last time out – Alexandru Chipciu opened the scoring and, after Lithuania looked to have snatched a late point, Alexandru Maxim popped up with a stoppage-time winner. Goalless draws with Montenegro and Serbia, both at home, bookend Romania’s UEFA Nations League campaign, while they have also drawn 2-2 in Serbia – Nicolae Stanciu and George Tucudean scoring as Romania twice came from behind to earn a point.

Romania Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Lithuania Team News

Lithuania are likely to stick with their five-man midfield, with Fedor Cernych up front on his own. Cernych, the captain, is closing in on 50 appearances and needs two more goals to go joint-third on the all-time Lithuanian goalscoring charts.

Lithuania Key Players

Arturas Zulpa – Scored a last-minute equaliser when these teams last met, even if Romania’s even later equaliser meant it counted for nothing.
Fedor Cernych – The captain is set to lead the line having scored eight goals in his 46 Lithuania appearances to date.
Ernestas Setkus – The thankless task of playing in goal for Lithuania as they bid to end their losing streak falls to the Hapoel Haifa stopper.

Lithuania Team Form

Lithuania have lost their last six matches and are without a win in their last eight. In the UEFA Nations League, they lost 1-0 to Serbia and 2-0 to Montenegro in September, before a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Romania last month – despite Arturas Zulpa’s last-minute equaliser. Their most recent game ended in a heavy 4-1 defeat to Montenegro, with Rolandas Baravykas’ goal coming in the 88th minute.

Lithuania Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-5-1

Romania have an excellent record against Lithuania, even if their win last time out was in dramatic circumstances, while their visitors have lost four from four in the group so far. Anything less than a Romania win would be a big surprise with all that in mind.
Romania have won 11 of their 12 previous matches against Lithuania.
