Our Prediction Tip

Portugal will win this match.

Portugal have dominated Lithuania in their last three outings, winning by a combined score of 14-3.  The only meeting in the last decade came in September of last year as Portugal won 1-5 in Lithuania.

Portugal vs Lithuania Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Portugal are at 1/33, a draw is at 16/1, and Lithuania is at 28/1.

Group B has one team firmly in control, and it’s not who you might think.  It’s Ukraine, who have taken 19 points from their first seven outings.  Portugal are in second on 11, though they have played one fewer, while Serbia have ten points.  Luxembourg have four, while Lithuania have just one.  Portugal can move on here, but they must win also hope Serbia drops points in order to clinch it here and now.  That means the wait could go on just a bit.

Portugal have had a successful year or so, even if they have labored through qualification as they typically do.  They won the inaugural Nations League, and they come into this match having lost just once all year.  They also have four draws and five wins.  The bad news is that the loss came in their last fixture, so that’s a bit of a problem for them going forward and something they will want to correct here.

Lithuania, on the other hand, are just going to look for good news anyway that they can get it.  Right now, that could be something as simple as just keeping a match close against a bigger side.  That’s the pit they have fallen into of late.  They have eight losses and two draws in the last year of action, and one of those came at home to lowly Luxembourg.  On the road, they have five losses and a draw, with that coming at Azerbaijan in a friendly.

Ladbrokes have no for both teams scoring at ¼.

Betfair have Ronaldo scoring twice or more at 1.9.

Portugal vs Lithuania Match Prediction

Following a massacre back in Vilinius in the reverse fixture, it’s hard to justify thinking that Lithuania have a chance to even keep it tight here.  The Portuguese take full advantage and obliterate their foes again here.

Correct Score Prediction: Portugal 5-0 Lithuania

POR Team News

Fernando Santos has several injuries that will hamper his selection here, with Joao Felix and Goncalo Guedes missing up front, Andre Gomes and William Carvalho in midfield, and Pepe and Nelson Semedo at the back.

POR Key Man

One man that might be fancying his chances here to make an impact is Andre Silva.  He’s not had a lot of luck since being proclaimed as Ronaldo’s heir, but he could get an opportunity to add to the 15 goals he’s scored for his country with both Felix and Guedes out of action here.  Ronaldo, too, of course, is one to watch, as he’s always a major threat to score.  The Juventus man has four in the qualification campaign so far and will look to increase that tally against a weak Lithuania side.

POR Team Form

Portugal have a loss and four wins in their last five matches:

2-1 loss at Ukraine
3-0 home win vs Luxembourg
1-5 win at Lithuania
2-4 win at Serbia
1-0 home win vs Netherlands (UNL Final)

Portugal Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-4-2

LTU Team News

Valdas Urbonas has named generally the same side here as he did last time out in a bid to try and find a formula going forward for their struggling national program.

LTU Key Man

Though they did lose to Serbia at home, it will be viewed as a moral victory of sorts for them given their recent struggles.  The hope here will be that they can keep it close and possibly pinch something.  They will need all the help they can get from midfielder Saulius Mikoliunas if they are to do so.  The vice captain has 81 caps and five goals, so his experience at 35 will be desperately required.  Up front, there hopes will be on Deivydas Matulievicius to grab them an unlikely goal.  He’s got five in 38 caps, so it’s unlikely but possible that it could take place.

LTU Team Form

Lithuania have lost each of their last five matches:

1-2 home loss vs Serbia
2-0 loss at Ukraine
1-5 home loss vs Portugal
0-3 home loss vs Ukraine
4-1 loss at Serbia

Lithuania Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line-up: 4-5-1

Portugal can get much closer to securing a place in Euro 2020, and that's what they will be hoping to do here and are favored to do. They are a much bigger, better, and more clinical side than Lithuania, who find themselves on the end of a long losing run. In fact, they have only managed to grab three draws since March of 2018, so that makes matters even worse. They'll be lucky to keep this one even remotely close.
Lithuania's last win came all the way back in March of 2018. That's 18 matches without tasting victory now.
