Newcastle will enter this weekend off the back of a loss to Palace that leaves them in 14th on 31 points. They do still have some work to do in order to assure themselves they are not relegated, but they do have seven points over 18th place Villa. That is good news, obviously, but there will still be one or two glances over their shoulders with anxiety. Especially due to their form in the PL in their last four games, which has included two losses and two draws.
Burnley, meanwhile, will come into this match off the back of a Dyche like masterpiece. They won, with a little luck, but they took it well and moved into tenth as a result of it. That means they are on 37 points, three from the 40 that most point toward as deeming them safe. They can just about put their feet up for another few months. That’s four wins from their last five, mind you, and it means they are only four off Manchester United for fifth. They couldn’t, could they?
The Magpies will come into this match with 20 points- via five wins and five draws- from 13 home matches this term. That’s just three defeats, so that is a pretty good record that has given them a fighting chance of maintaining their PL status. In their last two, they have four points, so they are trending well. As for the Clarets, they have amassed 15 points from 13 away games. While we don’t believe Burnley will be able to sustain this form to get into Europe, it’s hard to think they will magically just lose it over night. A trip to Newcastle is tough, but they are used to doing things the hard way.
Steve Bruce has a rather long list of injuries hampering here, as they have throughout the season. Those that are due to miss out, again, include Emil Krafth, Ciaran Clark, Jack Colback, Paul Dummett, Andy Carroll, and Jetro Willems, all of whom have injuries. Valentino Lazaro is ruled out with a suspension. Jonjo Shelvey and Javi Manquillo are in a race for fitness from injuries of their own, while Christian Atsu is trying to shake off sickness.

After going forever, seemingly, without scoring or assisting, Miguel Almiron had a period of prolific scoring. Since then, he’s gone quiet, but they will need more of that. On the opposite wing, Allan Saint-Maximin is a man to keep an eye on. He’s not had a lot of success, due to injury and getting acquainted with the league, but he does have the raw pace and skill to make in roads.

How Burnley are where they are is amazing in and of itself, but doing it without Wood and Barnes- even to a degree- is even more astounding. Matej Vydra, a Championship master, has led the way in the last two games, scoring goals in both outings. Because of that, it’s hard to rush back the veteran pair… just yet. Out wide, Dwight McNeil is truly one of the more underrated stars in the league. He added to that case at home to Bournemouth by providing the opening assist and then scoring the third, the dagger, to seal up the points.
