Our Prediction Tip

Netherlands will win this match.

The only previous time Netherlands have faced Greece ended in a comfortable home win for the Dutch. That international friendly took place back in 2004 and was a 4-0 victory for Netherlands.

Netherlands v Greece: Prediction

It is hard to know what to expect from Netherlands here, with some of their most recognisable players left out of the squad. Danny Blind looks to be turning towards youth and it will be a gradual process as they look to build towards the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

For Greece, their Euro 2004 victory seems a long time ago and there is a distinct lack of class and quality in their ranks. They are unlikely to pose much of a goal threat, so it should be a home win.

Netherlands v Greece: Betting Tips

Netherlands are strong favourites for this this game and they can be backed at 8/15 to win against Greece, who are available at odds of 7/1. The draw looks to be decent value at 3/1 but this should really be a home win as long as the Dutch can perform to the best of their abilities.

Vincent Janssen, who moved to Tottenham earlier in the summer, has scored three goals in five appearances for his country and he is a tempting 8/5 to score any time in this international friendly, which is taking place at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven.

Netherlands are unbeaten in their last four matches - all of which have been international friendlies - so the handicap market could be of interest here with Netherlands -1 offered at 10/11.

Veteran strikers Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Schalke and Robin van Persie of Fenerbahce are not in the Netherlands squad for this game, with Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay also left out. The 21-year-old PSV Eindhoven midfielder Jorrit Hendrix is in line to make his debut here. Tottenham's new striker, Vincent Janssen, is one to watch as he has scored three goals in his five international appearances for his country so far.

Netherlands likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Cillessen

  • Defenders:- Tete, Blind, Van Dijk, Willems

  • Midfielders:- Bazoer, Hendrix, Strootman

  • Forwards:- Berghuis, Dost, Janssen

Greece coach Michael Skibbe has picked three players each from Greek champions Olympiakos and PAOK, while there are also five representatives of German clubs in his 23-man squad. Kostas Mitroglou of Benfica will be expected to lead the line for his country, with other recognisable names likely to be on show including Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Greece likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Kapino

  • Defenders:- Manolas, Papadopoulos, Papastathopoulos, Holebas

  • Midfielders:- Mantalos, Petsos, Maniatis, Samaris, Tzavellas

  • Forwards:- Mitroglou

Netherlands did not qualify for Euro 2016 despite the expanded format of the competition and they have to start showing they will be able to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia. For Greece, it is a rebuilding process for their coach Michael Skibbe and a positive result is unlikely here, with performances prized more highly over the final scoreline. An easy home win.
Vincent Janssen is expected to start up front and he has hit three goals in five games.
