Our Prediction Tip

Netherlands will win this match.

The Netherlands beat Germany 3-0 at home during the UEFA Nations League and the two teams drew 2-2 in Germany in the reverse fixture. That was their 16th draw in 42 previous meetings, while Germany have won 15 and the Dutch 11. In the first meeting earlier this season, Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum all netted, while the Dutch staged a late comeback in the latter. Timo Werner and Leroy Sane put Germany 2-0 up, but Quincy Promes and Van Dijk scored late on to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Netherlands vs Germany Betting Tips

Germany got off to a solid start in 2019 with their friendly draw with Serbia, but if they are to rebuild with this new younger squad they have some ghosts to banish in the Netherlands too.

The 3-0 defeat in the UEFA Nations League was a reminder of just how bad last season had been, and also an indicator of the Dutch improvement since missing out on the World Cup.

Virgil van Dijk scored in both games against Germany last year and netted in the win against Belarus – he offers plenty in both penalty areas and has been central to the Dutch improvement.

Up front, Memphis Depay’s goalscoring form continued in the win against Belarus too and this Dutch team is starting to look more like the high-quality sides expected from the Oranje.

Germany, on the other hand, are still looking for the right formula with their young squad. They showed good attacking intent against Serbia but only scored once.

They should not be written off just because of their bad form – star quality is still there in abundance, with players such as Leroy Sane and Marco Reus to name just two.

But the Dutch have home advantage for this one – where they have beaten the Germans, France and Sweden in recent times.

The Netherlands’ rebuilding job has got off to a far better start since the World Cup than Germany’s. This could be another Dutch win – though it would, admittedly, be a surprise if it was as big a scoreline as their last home game against Joachim Low’s side.

Netherlands vs Germany Recommended bets with odds

With home advantage, the Netherlands are favourites to beat Germany but can still be backed at 8/5 with Bet365.

The Dutch have been solid defensively in recent home competitive matches, with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of that, and they are a best price of 4/1 – again with Bet365 – to win to nil.

You can bet against both teams to score a 13/10 with Ladbrokes, while under 2.5 goals will return 21/20 with 10Bet.

Memphis Depay continued his goalscoring form against Belarus and is 17/10 with Betfair and Paddy Power to score at any time. Virgil van Dijk netted in both games against Germany last year meanwhile, and he is worth backing at a best price of 10/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair.

Netherlands vs Germany Prediction

The Netherlands are favourites on home soil against Germany – their recent home record suggests their rebuilding job can continue with another win.

Correct score prediction: Netherlands 1-0 Germany

Netherlands Team News

The Dutch could be largely unchanged from the team which beat Belarus so comfortably last time out, having been able to call upon a near full-strength squad. Davy Propper, Quincy Promes and Kenny Tete all featured from the bench, however, and could start against the Germans.

Netherlands Key Players

Virgil van Dijk – Scored in both games against Germany in the UEFA Nations League, as well as providing a towering defensive presence too.
Memphis Depay – Another to net in the win against Germany, he moved to 15 goals in 45 appearances with his double against Belarus.
Quincy Promes – Started the comeback against Germany last time they met, and the Sevilla winger has six goals in 35 Dutch appearances.

Netherlands Team Form

The Netherlands are unbeaten in their last five matches, winning three of those. The run started with the 3-0 win the last they faced Germany at home, while a 2-0 win at home to France and dramatic late draw in Germany saw them top their UEFA Nations League group. Last time out, Memphis Depay scored twice and Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum also netted as the Dutch kicked off their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign by beating Belarus 4-0.

Netherlands Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Germany Team News

Leroy Sane should be fit to play despite being on the receiving end of a horror tackle in the friendly with Serbia – the Manchester City winger was taken off but confirmed it was only precautionary. Lukas Klostermann made his debut against Serbia but has since dropped out of the squad. The 4-2-3-1 formation used for that game could be retained, but Marco Reus is likely to start ahead of Kai Havertz.

Germany Key Players

Timo Werner – Opened the scoring the last time these two nations met and looks set to lead the German line for the foreseeable future despite his goalscoring drought that preceded it.
Marco Reus – On at half-time in the friendly against Serbia and set up the equaliser to continue what has been a great season, particularly at club level with Borussia Dortmund.
Leroy Sane – Also scored the last time these two teams met, while his pace and passing from the wing has been key to Manchester City’s success so far this season.

Germany Team Form

Germany drew both home games during the UEFA Nations League against France and the Netherlands but away defeats saw them finish bottom of their group. They are unbeaten in their last two matches, however, having played both matches in November in Germany. First they beat Russia 3-0 thanks to goals from Leroy Sane, Niklas Sule and Serge Gnabry, and then drew 2-2 with the Dutch after Timo Werner and Sane scored early goals – the Netherlands hitting back in the final five minutes.

Germany Predicted Starting Line-up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Both of these teams need to rebuild but the Dutch are making a better go of it so far. After missing out on the World Cup, the Netherlands have since qualified for the UEFA Nations League finals – beating Germany 3-0 at home along the way. That should give them confidence they can overcome Joachim Low's young German side.
The Netherlands have won their last six competitive home games, scoring 19 goals and conceding just once - including their win against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.
