MEX vs USA Betting Tips and Odds

Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Mexico are at 11/10 to win, a draw is at 9/4, and a USA win is at 5/2.

Mexico come into this match much like their unofficial co-hosts.  They are transitioning a bit, so they are still slowly developing.  That has caused them to be inconsistent in this Gold Cup.  They won all three of their group matches, some in convincing fashion and others not so much.  The knockout rounds, though, have been brutal for them.  They had to withstand extra time and penalties with Costa Rica before dumping out the 2014 World Cup quarterfinalists and then had to go to extra time with Haiti in a shocker.  Their legs could well be gone in Chicago.

The USA have also won all of their matches, but they have had varying degrees of assuredness to their play, too.  In the group, they wiped out both Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago, showing their potential, before rotating and narrowly beating Panama to take top spot.  They then toiled to a 1-0 win over Curacao in the quarterfinals, setting up a rematch of the last Gold Cup Final with Jamaica.  They ended up winning 3-1 and showing their firepower again, but will it be on show here or not?

Betfair have both sides scoring at 2.0 odds.

They also have Jimenez scoring anytime at 2.8.

Mexico vs USA Prediction

It’s hard to tell if the United States have made any progress so far, and the same can be said for Mexico under Tata.  This is the time to shine and this will be the moment we’ll be able to tell who has, and it’s going to be Mexico, who have the poacher to get them the title.

Correct Score Prediction: Mexico 2-1 United States

Mexico Team News

Tata Martino doesn’t like to unnecessarily make a lot of changes, so you can expect him to keep relying upon experienced but aging players for this massive Final here.

Mexico Key Man

With Wolves man Raul Jimenez up front to lead the line, anything is possible for Mexico.  The former Benfica man is never all that far away from scoring, and he’s also a threat with his passing range and work ethic.  His penalty fired them here and showed his cool head under pressure.  In midfield, El Tri continue to rely upon Andres Guardado.  The former PSV man has a ton of miles on his ticker now, but he keeps on recycling possession and providing plenty of great set pieces to be one to watch for.

Mexico Team Form

Mexico have four wins and a draw in their last five matches:

0-1 win extra time win vs Haiti
1-1 draw, penalty win vs Costa Rica
2-3 win vs Martinique
3-1 win vs Canada
7-0 win vs Cuba

Mexico Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

USA Team News

Gregg Berhalter made some big calls in the semis to leave out Gyasi Zardes and to include Jordan Morris and Jozy Altidore.  While he’s just as likely to play the same team, he may back Zardes this time around and leave the veteran Altidore to come off the bench if a spark is needed.

USA Key Man

Christian Pulisic is undoubtedly the man to keep tabs on here.  He’s been one of the top goal scorers, chipping in with three, including two in the second half against Jamaica to help the Americans pull away, and is also their creative outlet.  Without him playing well, their play will grind to a quick halt.  In goal, Zack Steffen will be asked to come up with a fine performance to help them retain their title as champions of the continent.  He’s played well so far, and he is starting to erase memories of Howard and co.  A great showing here might just do that once and for all.

USA Team Form

USA have won each of their last five matches:

1-3 win vs Jamaica
1-0 win vs Curacao
0-1 win vs Panama
6-0 win vs Trinidad & Tobago
4-0 win vs Guyana

USA Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

This is just so, so tough to call and there are so many factors that this match hinges on. Mexico and the USA are both trying to figure out their best XI, and that has caused them each to be inconsistent. At the end of the day, though, Mexico look to have more talent and certainly have more experience at the top level overall. Along with what should be a raucous crowd that tilts in their favor, you’ve got to like El Tri's chances to reclaim the throne.
Mexico have conceded a goal in three of their Gold Cup matches so far, while the Americans have only given up across their five matches.
