While Wolves have not won at Old Trafford since 1980, defeat in the FA Cup third-round replay against United in January was their first loss in this fixture since they returned to the top flight in 2018. They had previously drawn three and won two. Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of that FA Cup tie, while the league fixture at Molineux saw Ruben Neves cancel out Anthony Martial’s first-half opener.

Manchester United managed to beat Manchester City on the night in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg but the result was not enough to overturn their 3-1 first-leg deficit and, in truth, just papered over a lot of cracks.
Bruno Fernandes’ arrival is one positive to emerge this week, and was well-timed with Nemanja Matic suspended after his red card at the Etihad.
Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, as well as Marcus Rashford up front, are all out injured still and so Fernandes can slot straight in to this team.
Their last home league game highlighted everything that has gone wrong for United of late, however – a 2-0 defeat to Burnley, which followed their loss to Liverpool in the previous game.
Wolves can take advantage of that, and will field a stronger team than in the FA Cup third-round replay at Old Trafford in January.
Indeed, Wolves had previously not lost to United under Nuno Espirito Santo and with Raul Jimenez in form up front, they can snatch a least a point.
In fact, snatch does them a disservice – it would not have been a big surprise for Wolves to get a result at Old Trafford given the results they have managed against top teams in the Premier League regardless of United’s form.
Throw United’s form into the mix as well, and a point is the least Wolves should be hoping for despite the odds being against them.

Nemanja Matic’s red card against Manchester City added insult to injury, with United now without the Serbian in midfield as well as injured Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba. Marcus Rashford remains absent too. Bruno Fernandes could slot straight into the United team after signing from Sporting, however, taking Matic’s place in the starting XI.
Antony Martial – Leading the line in Marcus Rashford’s absence, the Frenchman has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season.
Harry Maguire – A towering presence at the back and, while he is yet to truly find his feet with United, he could still become a key defender for them.
Bruno Fernandes – Arrives from Benfica after contributing 13 goals and ten assists so far this season and United so desperately need some creativity in midfield.
Manchester United have won four of their last nine matches in all competitions, but the latest win – a 1-0 victory at Manchester City thanks to Nemanja Matic’s goal – was not enough to get them through to the Carabao Cup final as they crashed out 3-2 on aggregate. Their last league match saw them beaten 2-0 at home to Burnley.
Only Ruben Vinagre is sidelined for Wolves, for whom Diogo Jota, Morgan Gibbs-White and Willy Boly could remain on the bench as they bid to force their way back into first-team reckoning after injury.
Raul Jimenez – Three goals in the last two league games means he has scored 20 in all competitions so far this season.
Ruben Neves – Scored in the meeting between the two at Molineux earlier in the season and it is his control of the tempo and range of passing in the middle that makes him key.
Adama Traore – Excelled in Wolves’ two matches against Manchester City and set up Jimenez’s goal against Liverpool last time out.
Since these teams last met, Wolves have beaten Southampon 3-2 away and lost 2-1 at home to Liverpool. Pedro Neto scored one and Raul Jimenez the other two as they came from 2-0 down at half-time to beat the Saints, while Jimenez netted an equaliser at home to Liverpool only for the visitors to snatch a late winner.
