Southampton have not beaten Manchester United since January 2016, although four of their last six Premier League meetings have ended in draws – including this season’s 1-1 draw at St Mary’s. Manchester United are in superb form, climbing up the table and now standing on the brink of a top-four place.
It is not just their recent wins but the margin of victory too, with Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes in fine form and Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford chipping in too.
Paul Pogba got an important goal last time out as he looks to rebuild after a frustrating start to the season and with all of them ticking, United are in fine form.
Some weaknesses remain – David de Gea’s star has faded and there are upgrades needed in defence – but with a fully-fit, full-strength XI, United have been unstoppable.
Their attacking prowess has negated any issues at the other end and they can continue their fine form in this game.

After a 5-2 win at home to Bournemouth last time they were at Old Trafford – Mason Greenwood (2), Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes scoring – Fernades, Greenwood and Paul Pogba all scored in a 3-0 win at Aston Villa last time out.
Injuries are adding up a little for Southampton, but Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg could start and Jannik Vestergaard – who netted when these sides last met – is also back in contention. Shane Long and Che Adams are competing for the place alongside Ings.
Danny Ings – Scored his 19th Premier League goal of the season last time out and the English striker’s resurgent season has earned many admirers.
James Ward-Prowse – Missed a penalty last time out, which he won controversially, but his general form has been good over the season.
Jack Stephens – Integral at the back when Southampton beat Manchester City and he could be just as important to the Saints’ hopes this time out.
Southampton drew 1-1 at Everton last time out to move to seven points from their last three games – Danny Ings scoring yet again in that game. Che Adams had previously scored the only goal in their 1-0 win against Manchester City, which owed much to their defensive performance, while Ings scored twice and James Ward-Prowse also netted in a 3-1 win at Watford before that.
