Bet365 have the following odds available for this match:

Liverpool are at 1/5 to win, a draw is at 11/2, and a Southampton win is at 12/1.

Liverpool's fine start to the EPL 2018 season continued on a magical night at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday.  Their 3-2 victory over PSG summarized them to a T.  The Reds are capable in attack, but even when they look comfortable, games are never truly safe.  Nonetheless, they won the game and kept two massive stars quiet in doing so.  In terms of the Prem, they start play in second this weekend on 15 points having won all of their matches to date.  They only trail Chelsea on goal difference, but they could be back above them by the time the Blues kick off on Sunday.

Southampton, meanwhile, have a very large task on their hands here.  They have played a fairly soft schedule to open the campaign, but they only have five points via a win and two draws to show for it.  13th place is probably something few Saints fans will want, but it might just be something they'd take right now after last season's flirtation with the drop.  They've finally found a threat again in from of goal in the form of Danny Ings, but the Englishman won't be available this weekend.  That puts them in a major bind here against a team that can score bundles of goals on their day.

Liverpool leading at both halves is at 1.61 via Betfair.

No for both teams scoring is set at 4/6 at Ladbrokes.

Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction

At some point, Liverpool will surely need to rotate their players a little.  But it's probably not going to come just yet.  The tank isn't empty, at least not empty enough to lose.  They keep a clean sheet against the Saints and make it six from six.

Correct Score Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Liverpool Team News

Jurgen Klopp might have a desire to rotate slightly for this match, but in all likelihood he will stick with generally the same side until Wednesday's tie with Chelsea in the EFL Cup.  He will still be missing center midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana and center back Dejan Lovren, all of which came from Southampton at some point in time in the past.

Liverpool Key Players

Even without one of his eyes, alright that's a little bit in jest, Roberto Firmino managed to win the game for the Reds in the dying embers against PSG.  The goal continues a great run of form for the club and underlines just how big he is for the team.  It's not always with goals, but he truly is the glue that has held the attack together in the last year. Sadio Mane is also up there alongside giving support.  The Senegal man has four goals so far to his credit and will look to get in on more of the action against his former side here.

Liverpool Team Form

Liverpool have won each of their last five matches:

3-2 home win vs PSG (UCL)
1-2 win at Spurs
1-2 win at Leicester
1-0 home win vs Brighton
0-2 win at Crystal Palace

Liverpool Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Southampton Team News

Mark Hughes' biggest spot of bother here is that loanee Danny Ings cannot play against his parent club.  That puts the manager in a really tough spot at Anfield, a situation that is already difficult enough to deal with. As if that isn't tough enough to deal with, likely second-choice striker Manolo Gabbiadini will have to have a late test to check if his hamstring will hold up for the contest.

Southampton Key Players

Without Ings to lead the line here, Hughes has to figure out something else.  He's not used Charlie Austin much, but he might just have to here at Anfield.  Austin has always plundered goals in the Prem, but few of them have come against the big teams. They need him here, in a big way.  Left back Ryan Bertrand could be the key to unlocking Liverpool.  With their high press, the full back could get in behind and deliver a lethal cross to exploit their defensive frailties.

Southampton Team Form

Southampton have a draw, two wins, and two losses in their last five matches:

2-2 home draw vs Brighton
0-2 win at Crystal Palace
0-1 win at Brighton (EFL Cup)
1-2 home loss vs Leicester
2-1 loss at Everton

Southampton Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Two clubs that are heavily linked to each other meet here. A good chunk of Liverpool's squad has come from Southampton, even. The Saints are a team that have given the Reds major problems in the past, but all of that has quieted down of late with them failing to register a single goal in the last four PL matches against Liverpool. With Danny Ings out against his former (still parent) side, that run could be set to continue.
Each of the last six fixtures played between the two sides have ended with at least one side failing to score.
