Leeds United VS Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction
- 2020-10-19
- 19:00:00
Leeds United will win this match.
This is the first meeting since the 2017-18 season, when Wolves won twice against Leeds – 4-1 at home and 3-0 away – on their way to the title. Helder Costa, now at Leeds, was among Wolves’ scorers in the victory at Molineux, while Romain Saiss and Willy Boly were among the players to net in the reverse fixture at Elland Road.
Leeds have impressed so far since their Premier League promotion. They were unlucky against Liverpool and are unbeaten since – drawing with Manchester City last time out.
Their defence still looks a little porous, and Raul Jimenez should be relishing the opportunity to get at it (and behind it).
But Wolves have been inconsistent by contrast with their heavy defeats to West Ham and Manchester City highlighting their own issues this season.
The team that was so consistent over the last two seasons and challenged the top six has been broken up and some key players have moved on.
They know what the newly-promoted bounce can do and Leeds are looking to replicate what Wolves have achieved since getting back in the top flight.
And it is Leeds who look like favourites to win this game as a result of their better form at the start of the season.
Leeds are in better form and are favourites at 31/20 with 888sport to beat Wolves in this game.
Both teams to score, given Leeds’ porous defence at times, can be backed at 4/5 with Bet365 and 10Bet.
Over 2.5 goals in this game will return 21/20 with 888sport.
Raul Jimenez is a best price of 8/5 to score at any time for Wolves with 888sport, while Patrick Bamford is 43/20 with 888sport for Leeds.
Leeds United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction
Leeds have started the season in better form than inconsistent Wolves and can continue that with a win in this game.
Pablo Hernandez and Jack Harrison are back in contention, but Liam Cooper is unlikely to feature. Adam Forshaw and Gaetano Berardi remain sidelined, while Diego Llorente was absent from international duty in mid-week.
Patrick Bamford – Scored in each of Leeds’ first three league wins and will want to get straight back to that goalscoring form now.
Helder Costa – Scored twice against Fulham and now has something to prove against his former club after being unable to make it in the Premier League with them.
Kalvin Phillips – The England international will bid to control the game against Neves and Moutinho in central midfield.
Leeds beat Fulham 4-3 before a 1-0 win at Sheffield United – Patrick Bamford scoring in both games, while Helder Costa hit two and Mateusz Klich the other in the win against Fulham. They followed those wins up with a 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City last time out – Rodrigo scoring their second-half equaliser.
Jonny Castro is still sidelined, but Fernando Marcal is expected to recover from his recent injury for this game.
Raul Jimenez – Scored in the win against Sheffield United and added another against Manchester City despite the defeat.
Pedro Neto – With no more Diogo Jota, the Portuguese forward needs to replace his countryman. He scored the win last time out.
Ruben Neves – Wolves’ playmaker and will look to keep the Leeds midfield out of the game too to dictate the tempo.
Wolves started with a win against Sheffield United but lost three in a row – against Stoke in the League Cup and Manchester City and West Ham in the league. Beleagured, they conceded seven goals across the latter of those two games. Last time out, Pedro Neto scored their only goal.
