Honduras

Our Prediction Tip

South Korea will win this match.

With this being an Olympic Games and the Under 23 rule being enforced, these two sides have never really had a chance to meet before; exacerbated by the fact that they are based in different continents.

They did, however, meet at the Olympics of 2008 in Beijing (with different sets of players of course) where the Koreans triumphed 1-0, and then subsequently in a friendly in 2011 when Korea again got the upper hand in a 4-0 win.

South Korea vs Honduras: Prediction

Little is really known about these two groups of players, but from their form at the group stage we have to hand the advantage to South Korea.

They’ve taken a draw from the much-fancied Germans and defeated the reigning Olympic gold medallists, Mexico, so their form is clearly very strong. Their side is made up mostly of domestic Korean talents, but their standout star - Son Heung-Min – plies his trade at Tottenham in the English Premier League and is a fine talent.

Honduras’ draw with Argentina was a real surprise, and in defeating Algeria but tasting defeat to Portugal they have lived up to expectations elsewhere. Playing on South American turf, they may will feel at home.

But Korea are the better side, and they look well set for a semi-final berth. In Son Heung-Min, they boast the clear match winner.

South Korea vs Honduras Betting Tips

The Koreans have more than enough talent to win in normal time, and while Honduras will look to make life difficult they have conceded five goals in their three Olympic outings to date and that is a concern for them.

Korea have the ability to score goals – their 3-3 draw with the ultra-efficient Germany is testament to that – and so they will be able to break down the Honduran backline. Having a wager on Son Heung-Min to score anytime is also a smart investment.

Just how impressive have South Korea been in the Olympics so far? They dispatched Fiji by a scoreline of 8-0, as expected, but then took a point from a first class Germany side. To complete their Group C campaign with a win over defending champions Mexico was the icing on the cake, and confirmed their status as group winners.

South Korea likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:-Gu Sung-Yun

  • Defenders:-Jung Seung-Hyun, Hyun-Soo Jang, Sang-Min Sim, Seul-Chan Lee

  • Midfielders:-Chang-Hoon Kwon, Chang-Min Lee, Yong-Woo Park, Hee-Chan Hwang

  • Attackers:-Ryu Seung-Woo, Son Heung-Min

Honduras produced a huge shock in eliminating Argentina from the Olympic Games; they finished level on points with their South American counterparts, but a greater goal difference secured second place in Group D. A draw on Sunday against the Argentines was enough to book their quarter final place.

Honduras likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:-Luis Lopez

  • Defenders:-Jonathan Paz, Marcelo Perreira, Kevin Alvarez, Johnny Palacios

  • Midfielders:-Bryan Acosta, Brayan Ramirez, Allan Banegas

  • Attackers:-Marcelo Espinal, Romell Quioto, Anthony Lozano

South Korea have a fine history in the Olympics and in senior men\'s football tournaments - they have a couple of World Cup quarter-finals to their name - and so they have a heritage of going deep into this sort of competition. This is rather more unknown territory for the Hondurans, and while they have been plucky to date we would have to favour the Koreans to reach the last four.
All of the key stats points towards a South Korea victory, and while we\'re willing to overlook their 2-0 head-to-head lead given that the players on the pitch will be vastly different here, we cannot see past the fact that they have taken positive results from two of the tournament\'s favourites with the bookmakers: Germany and Mexico.
