Our Prediction Tip

Liverpool will win this match.

This will be the first time Genk and Liverpool have met in European football.

GENK vs LFC Betting Tips

Considering they are European champions, Liverpool’s away record in Champions League group stage fixtures is actually really poor.

They lost three from three at this stage last season and drew two in a supposedly ‘easy’ group the previous year. In fact, they have just one win in their last ten Champions League group stage away games.

Add to that their unconvincing win against RB Salzburg last time out – nearly blowing a 3-0 lead as they eventually scraped a 4-3 victory – and things clearly need to improve.

But improve they should, considering they are playing against a Genk team who have never won in the Champions League group stage.

They have earned six draws from seven home games at this stage of the competition, but a win has continued to elude them.

Liverpool, therefore, know they need to break Genk down early. Without Mo Salah, they were lacklustre against Manchester United at Old Trafford – and blew the chance of setting a new Premier League consecutive wins record as a result.

But their attacking prowess is still well known, and some early goals could be key against this Genk team – they conceded six against RB Salzburg, for example, but then drew 0-0 with Napoli last time out.

With or without Salah, Liverpool still have the attacking quality to earn a win – Sadio Mane is in good form and Roberto Firmino earned two assists in the win against Salzburg.

Liverpool’s recent defensive form, since Salzburg at least, has not been to their usual high standards either, but Genk are not a team known for attacking dominance.

Liverpool should win this game and get everything back on track in the process.

Liverpool vs Genk Recommended bets with odds

Liverpool are favourites to beat Genk and can be backed at 2/7 with Bet365, Ladbrokes and Betway to win in Belgium.

Goals are often few in Genk’s home Champions League fixtures. You can bet against both teams to score at 23/20 with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Under 2.5 goals, meanwhile, will return a best price of 21/10 with Betfair.

Mo Salah is a best price of 5/6 with Ladbrokes to score at any time but with questions over the Egyptian’s fitness, Sadio Mane might be a better price at 19/20 with 888sport.

Genk vs Liverpool Prediction

Genk are still searching for their first home win in the UEFA Champions League and a match against the European champions is unlikely to provide that.

Correct Score Prediction: Genk 0-2 Liverpool

Genk Team News

Goalkeeper Danny Vukovic (achilles) is a notable absentee, while Neto Borges (foot) will also miss out for the hosts. Having drawn with Napoli in their last Champions League game, and having lost their most recent league match, Genk could revert to the team that earned that point against the Italians.

Genk Key Players

Paul-Ebere Onuachu – While a defensive line-up would mean he probably starts on the bench, he has proved the impact he can have with his two goals in Genk’s most recent win.
Ianis Hagi – Scored two penalties against Sint-Truiden and is generally a key playmaker in the 4-2-3-1 formation, sitting off the striker.
Gaetan Coucke – Kept a clean sheet against Napoli in Danny Vukovic’s absence and needs to martial the defence in front of him to a similarly disciplined display.

Genk Team Form

Genk drew with Napoli in their most recent Champions League game, holding them to a goalless draw in Belgium, but their league form has been patchy at best around it. Their previous game was abandoned due to crowd trouble just moments after Genk had thrown a 3-0 lead away to be drawing 3-3 with Sint-Truiden. They did come from behind to beat Royal Excel Mouscron 2-1 – Paul Ebere Onuachu scoring twice – but a 1-0 defeat to Standard Liege last weekend leaves them sixth in the table.

Genk Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Liverpool Team News

Mo Salah remains a doubt for this match after failing to recover from his ankle injury to face Manchester United last week. After the game, Jurgen Klopp admitted the Egyptian had been unable to train, despite initial suggestions he would be fine. Divock Origi could continue up front in his place.

Liverpool Key Players

Sadio Mane – While he had a goal disallowed by VAR for handball at the weekend, he still has six goals and an assist so far this season.
Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool’s back line has been shaky in recent weeks – not least against Salzburg. They need their star man to step back up again.
Roberto Firmino – Set up two of Liverpool’s four goals in their narrow win against RB Salzburg on match day two.

Liverpool Team Form

Liverpool almost blew a 3-0 lead against Red Bull Salzburg in their last Champions League game – Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson and Mo Salah put them in front, but it took another goal from Salah to earn a 4-3 victory after the Austrian side roared back. The Reds then needed a disputed last-minute penalty to beat Leicester, after Sadio Mane’s opener was cancelled out, but James Milner converted from the spot. Then, against Liverpool, Adam Lallana’s late strike earned a point, as the Reds failed to match Manchester City’s Premier League record 18-game winning streak.

Liverpool Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Liverpool lost their Premier League winning streak and they have been unconvincing in the Champions League so far this season. But the European champions will expect a response and that should come in the form of a win against a Genk team who are yet to earn a UCL group stage victory.
Genk have never won a Champions League group game, though they have drawn six of their seven previous home games in the competition.
