Our Prediction Tip

England will win this match.

The head-to-head record between England and Iceland tells us little, due to the fact there have only ever been two matches between the two sides.

England are unbeaten against Iceland, drawing in the first meeting between the teams back in 1982 and winning 6-1 in the most recent fixture, which was back in 2004.

England v Iceland: Prediction

On paper England should be a lot stronger than Iceland, but the team spirit in the Icelandic side has been very difficult for teams to cope with at the finals. Iceland will sit deep and this has caused issues for England throughout the tournament, although Iceland have conceded once in each of their games, while England kept a clean sheet against Slovakia. A tight game appears inevitable.

England v Iceland: Betting Tips

A short price of 4/7 on England to win in 90 minutes is on offer, with the draw's 13/5 perhaps providing more value. Iceland are big outsiders for this second round game, with a price of 8/1 up for grabs on Lagerback's men coming out on top in 90 minutes, and 19/5 on Iceland to qualify is also big. Both teams to score looks a solid bet considering the defensive weaknesses of both sides, with a price of 2/1 extremely generous. The 10/1 on England to win 2-1 is very big indeed.

England manager Roy Hodgson does not seem to know his best team, making six changes to his side for the 0-0 draw with Slovakia, but full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are expected to return to the XI, along with captain Wayne Rooney.

Daniel Sturridge could retain his place in attack, but Jamie Vardy looks likely to be replaced by Harry Kane, with Dele Alli coming back into the midfield at the expense of Jack Wilshere. Eric Dier, England's star of the tournament, will continue in his role in front of the back line.

England likely XI:

Hart, Walker, Smalling, Cahill, Rose, Alli, Dier, Rooney, Lallana, Kane, Sturridge.

Iceland's progression into the next phase of Euro 2016 is one of the most heart-warming stories of the tournament so far, with their dramatic 2-1 win over Austria, sealed with the last kick of the game, ensuring they finished in second place in their group.

Coach Lars Lagerback has mostly selected the same team throughout the championships and there is no reason for him to change his mind at this stage, with Gylfi Sigurdsson continuing to be the player that Iceland's hopes of glory are resting on.

Iceland likely XI:

Halldorsson, Saevarsson, R Sigurdsson, Arnason, Skulason, Gudmundsson, Gunnarsson, G Sigurdsson, Bjarnason, Bodvarsson, Sigthorsson.

England looked set to play Portugal until Iceland\'s dramatic winner against Austria and Roy Hodgson will be breathing a sigh of relief. Hodgson insists there are a lot of goals to come from his team, but they have scored only three so far at the finals, one fewer than Iceland. England really ought to win, but it would not be a surprise if Iceland made them fight for it.
Iceland have both scored and conceded in all three of their Euro 2016 matches.
