Not only had Eintracht Frankfurt failed to beat Bayern Munich since 2010 before their DFB Pokal win, they had barely scored either – drawing a blank in ten of the 12 previous matches between the two. That changed in the final, however, with Ante Rebic scoring twice and Mijat Gacinovic scoring the other in a 3-1 win; Robert Lewandowski scored Bayern’s goal. In the Bundesliga last season, however, Bayern won 1-0 in Frankfurt and 4-1 in Munich – the latter just a few weeks before the cup final. Niklas Dorsch, Sandro Wagner, Rafinha and Niklas Sule all scored for Bayern in that game, with Sebastien Haller scoring Eintracht’s goal. Here are the results of their last five matches:

Niko Kovac masterminded Eintracht Frankfurt’s shock DFB Pokal final win against Bayern Munich but he will be in the opposite dug-out for the Super Cup.
And he will have the majority of his first-team squad available, having beaten Manchester United in their most recent friendly for a timely morale and fitness boost.
Robert Lewandowski will start up front, having scored Bayern’s goal in that cup final, while Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have a full pre-season behind them.
For Eintracht, they are only missing two players too but one of them, Ante Rebic, will be a big loss – the World Cup runner-up having been their cup final hero.
Bayern, therefore, are big favourites for this one – especially with Eintracht Frankfurt failing to impress so far in pre-season either.
At near full-strength, and with an excellent record in this fixture, it is hard to look beyond the Bundesliga champions – even if last season’s DFB Pokal final taught us not to take anything for granted.

With Ante Rebic missing for Eintracht, this is a big chance for Bayern to claim some revenge – led by the man who masterminded that cup win. They have a full-strength defence back together too, and you can bet against both teams to score at 6/5 with Betfair or Paddy Power.
A Bayern win to nil – in a fixture that, even with their cup final heroics, Eintracht have a dreadful record in, and have barely scored in during recent seasons – is 6/4 with Ladbrokes.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s DFB Pokal final win proved they should not be written off in this fixture, but that win against Bayern Munich was a rare one and is unlikely to be repeated in the Super Cup.
Cup final hero Ante Rebic is unlikely to feature after only just returning to training and he will join Frederik Ronnow (knee) on the sidelines. Felix Wiedwald is set to replace the latter in goal.

Felix Wiedwald – If Eintracht are to repeat their cup final heroics, second-choice keeper Felix Wiedwald will need to be on top form.
Eintracht Frankfurt have only won one of their five pre-season friendlies – a 6-2 win against Wehen Wiesbaden. They started their summer in America, drawing 1-1 with Real Salt Lake and losing 1-0 to Philadelphia Union, and this month lost two games in Italy – 2-0 to Empoli and 2-1 to SPAL. Sebastien Haller opened the scoring in the latter, but SPAL equalised in the second-half and grabbed a stoppage-time winner.
World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso is the only Bayern Munich player not back in pre-season training, with Niko Kovac otherwise able to select from a full-strength line-up. James Rodriguez is a doubt with a knock suffered against Manchester United, however. Robert Lewandowski is likely to start up front, with Sandro Wagner another minor doubt – the Polish striker only featured from the bench against United.

Arjen Robben – The veteran Dutch winger has had a full pre-season, which included a goal against Manchester City out in America.
Javi Martinez – Scored the winner against Manchester United last time out, and has continued to excel in pre-season, playing both at the back and in midfield.
Bayern Munich took an under-strength team to America for their International Champions Cup fixtures but still opened the campaign with a 3-1 comeback win against PSG – Javi Martinez, Renato Sanches and Joshua Zirkzee all scoring. They lost 2-0 to Juventus next up before Meritan Shabani and Arjen Robben helped them race into a 2-0 lead against Manchester City in their final game. City hit back to win 3-2, however. Last time out, against Manchester United, Martinez scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 Bayern Munich win.
