Chile

Our Prediction Tip

Chile will win this match.

Chile beat Ecuador 2-0 en route to Copa America victory in 2015 but the two teams won once apiece during World Cup 2018 qualifying. Ecuador won the first meeting 3-0, with Antonio Valencia, Cristian Ramirez and Felipe Caicedo all scoring for the hosts. In the reverse fixture, Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez scored, with the latter’s winning goal coming just two minutes after Romario Ibarra’s equaliser.

ECU vs CHI Betting Tips

Chile thrashed Japan in their opening game and can seal a place in the next round with a game to spare when they face Ecuador.

Ecuador were beaten 4-0 in their first game although an early red card had a huge bearing on that game – although they are not expected to beat Chile either.

Chile will face much sterner tests than the young Japan team they faced first up, but Ecuador are not necessarily one of those.

They were poor, even considering the red card, against Uruguay and remain too reliant on players like Antonio Valencia – who is playing off the back of a frustrating, injury-hit season.

Enner Valencia’s attacking ability makes him a danger man up front, but Chile will want to kick on from their clean sheet first up with another in this match.

For them, Eduardo Vargas has climbed to second in their all-time goalscoring charts, while Alexis Sanchez – another to have endured a frustrating domestic season at Old Trafford – scored one and assisted another.

Vargas is four behind Sanchez overall, having netted three times in the last two games, and Ecuador will have to be wary of the threat they pose.

Having conceded to Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez last time out, the danger is that Chile’s front men could do similar damage.

The sending off had a big bearing on that result, of course, but Ecuador looked likely to lose anyway – they were already a goal down at the time.

Chile may not run up quite the same score as Uruguay did, but it would be dangerous to bet against the defending champions after they re-found their ruthless streak in their opening game.

Chile vs Ecuador Recommended bets with odds

Chile are odds-on favourites to beat Ecuador and can be backed at 10/11 with Ladbrokes, Betway and 888sport to do so.

Betting against both teams to score will also return 10/11, with Bet365, after Chile won their opening game to nil and Ecuador lost by the same score.

A Chile win to nil this time out will return 21/10 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes.

After his double against Japan, Eduardo Vargas is a best price of 9/5 with Betfair and Paddy Power to score at any time. Alexis Sanchez is 21/10 with both.

Ecuador vs Chile Prediction

Chile made a winning start to their Copa America title defence in ruthless style against Japan and they can back that up with a win against Ecuador.

Correct Score Prediction: Ecuador 0-2 Chile

Ecuador Team News

Jose Alfredo Quinteros will be suspended after his 24th-minute red card in the defeat to Uruguay last time out and he is unlikely to be the only change. Pedro Velasco will start at right-back, having come on early for Angel Mena after the red card. Mena had earned his start after scoring against Mexico, however, and should be restored to playing with Enner Valencia up top. Cristian Ramirez and Robert Aboleda are also among the options to shore up the defence that was so ruthlessly punished last time out.

Ecuador Key Players

Enner Valencia – Set to earn his 50th international cap, having scored 28 times in his previous 49 appearances.
Antonio Valencia – The hugely experienced captain is playing in his preferred right-wing position and will want to create plenty for his namesake up front.
Angel Mena – Earned a start after scoring against Mexico in the final warm-up but was unlucky to be withdrawn after Jose Alfredo Quinteros’ red card – needs to re-earn his place.

Ecuador Team Form

After suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat against Uruguay in their opening game in this competition, Ecuador are now without a win in their last five matches. Jose Alfredo Quinteros’ 24th-minute sending off proved costly against Uruguay. Ecuador also lost their final warm-up game for this tournament 3-2 against Mexico, despite Angel Mena and Ayrton Preciado both scoring equalisers, having drawn their previous friendly 1-1 with Venezuela – Enner Valencia equalising in the last minute.

Ecuador Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Chile Team News

After starting the tournament by thrashing a young Japan team, Chile could stick with the same team as they bid to seal their place in the knock-out stages of the 2019 Copa America.

Chile Key Players

Alexis Sanchez – Scored his 42nd international goal in the win against Japan and also set up one of Eduardo Vargas’ two too.
Eduardo Vargas – Two goals in the win against Japan took him to 38 international goals – overtaking Marcelo Salas in the process. Only Sanchez now has more for Chile.
Charles Aranguiz – Set up the first and third goals from midfield against Japan and will look to dominate that battle again.

Chile Team Form

Chile have now won three of their last five matches after starting the 2019 Copa America by thrashing Japan 4-0. Eric Pulgar and Alexis Sanchez each scored once, with Eduardo Vargas’ double taking him up the all-time national goalscoring charts and securing a big win. Vargas also scored in the previous game, a 2-1 friendly win against Haiti. Vargas equalised and Jose Fuenzalida scored the winner.

Chile Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

After back-to-back Copa America titles, the bubble has truly best for Chile's golden generation. After failing to qualify for the World Cup, after four defeats in their last six qualifiers, they have won five of their 13 subsequent friendlies and failed to show their best form. Japan have been equally inconsistent, however, and have brought a young, inexperienced squad to this tournament. Chile should have the quality and experience to open with a win.
Excluding penalty shoot-outs, Chile have won just two of their last nine competitive matches.
