Lyon

Our Prediction Tip

Lyon will win this match.

The only two recent meetings between these two clubs came in the 2011/12 Ligue 1 season, with Lyon claiming the points on both occasions, although both teams were on the scoresheet in both games and there were also over 2.5 goals scored in each match too.

When Dijon were at home Lyon ran out 2-1 winners and the scoreline was more comfortable in the reverse fixture later in the season, with Lyon picking up a 3-1 win in front of their own fans.

Dijon v Lyon: Prediction

Lyon have started the new season in extremely good form, but it will be interesting to see what happens to their results if Alexandre Lacazette's hot streak suddenly burns out. A run of five goals in two games can surely not be maintained for much longer despite his quality and there is a suggestion he is trying to earn a move to a bigger club to play Champions League football. Lyon will demand top dollar for the striker, however, and insist they are determined to keep him. This could be his last game for the club and Lacazette will want to go out with a bang, so Lyon will be confident of grabbing all three points as they have in their last two games against Dijon.

Dijon v Lyon: Betting Tips

A price of 5/6 on Lyon to win at Dijon looks generous considering how strong Lyon have started the new campaign, coupled with the fact Dijon have not scored in their last two matches. The hosts can be backed at odds of 4/1 here but that is not a particularly appealing price and neither is the 5/2 on offer for the draw.

Lacazette's form means the goalscorer markets are certainly of interest and he can be backed at 7/2 to score the first goal of the game against Dijon, or 16/13 to score any time in this game.

Marvin Martin is the main injury absentee for Dijon in this match, with coach Olivier Dall'Oglio perhaps needing to freshen up his strikeforce after a couple of games without scoring a goal. Romain Amalfitano could be in danger of being dropped to the bench after struggling to make an impact in midfield so far this season, with Quentin Bernard among those hoping to be picked.

Dijon likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Reynet

  • Defenders:- Chafik, Varrault, Abdelhamid, Rufli

  • Midfielders:- Sammaritano, Balmont, Marie, Bernard

  • Forwards:- Tavares, Bahamboula

Alexandre Lacazette is undoubtedly the man to watch in the Lyon team, as he has scored all five of his side's goals in their first two Ligue 1 games of the campaign, both of which have been wins.

Lacazette followed up his opening weekend hat-trick with a brace last time out and it is no wonder he is one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe, with Arsenal reportedly keen to do a deal for the Frenchman before the closure of the transfer window next week. Nabil Fekir has also started the season in strong form and is a good foil for Lacazette's prowess in the penalty box.

Lyon likely XI:

  • Goalkeeper:- Lopes

  • Defenders:- Rafael, N'Koulou, Yanga-Mbiwa, Rybus

  • Midfielders:- Tolisso, Gonalons, Darder

  • Forwards:- Fekir, Lacazette, Cornet

Few Ligue 1 defences can cope with an on-form Alexandre Lacazette, as seen by the in-demand striker\'s haul of five goals in two games in the league so far. Dijon will not have come across many players of his talent in Ligue 2 last year and it is hard to see them keeping him out. Lyon should be fired to a comfortable win by Lacazette here.
Lyon have scored at least twice in 11 of their last 13 Ligue 1 matches.
