Our Prediction Tip

Draw will win this match.

Denmark and Austria have met eight times in all, with Austria’s win in their most recent meeting – a 2010 friendly – giving them the slight edge overall with four wins to Denmark’s three and one draw. That game in 2010, which Austria won 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Franz Schiemer and Roman Wallner either side of Nicklas Bendtner’s equaliser, is the only time the two nations have met since 1991, however.

DEN vs AUT Betting Tips

Denmark have been in brilliant form in the last two years, marred only by their penalty shoot-out defeat to Croatia in the World Cup and the loss with the scratch XI against Slovakia in last month’s friendly.

Without Christian Eriksen they lacked attacking impetus against Republic of Ireland last time out, but they host an Austria team missing their most potent attacking threat – Marko Arnautovic.

With no Eriksen and no Arnautovic, other players need to step up but both teams have injury concerns across the pitch – Thomas Delaney and David Alaba are among the other big names not likely to feature.

As a result, the two teams – both of whom have been in decent form – could cancel each other out. Denmark have drawn four of their last six matches, so another one would not be a huge surprise.

Goals may be in short supply too with the star names missing and no obvious players proving themselves capable of stepping up in their place.

As can be typical of friendlies then, it could be a low-scoring, low-entertainment match in Herning, with both teams ultimately cancelling each other out.

Austria vs Denmark Recommended bets with odds

Denmark are favourites to beat Austria at 11/10 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes, but the draw could be worth a punt at 11/5 with Bet365, Betway and 888sport.

In the absence of Christian Eriksen and Marko Arnautovic, goals could be in short supply – 888sport are offering just 13/25 on there being under 2.5 goals, which is the best price.

A draw and under 2.5 goals will return 13/5 with Betway, however.

If there are goals, Kasper Dolberg will hope to be among the scorers for the hosts as he bids to cement his place up front for Denmark. He is 12/5 to score at any time with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Denmark vs Austria Prediction

Denmark have drawn four of their last six matches and, without Christian Eriksen, it could be a sense of déjà vu for the home team.

Correct Score Prediction: Denmark 1-1 Austria

Denmark Team News

Thomas Delaney, Viktor Fischer and Christian Eriksen are all absent with injury in midfield, while Andreas Cornelius withdrew up front. It leaves Denmark particularly short in midfield, where Christian Norgaard could make his debut, while Cornelius’ absence has allowed a recall for uncapped Kenneth Zohore - who was in the Danes’ preliminary World Cup squad.

Denmark Key Players

Kasper Dolberg – Handed a start against Republic of Ireland last time out, and the highly-rated Ajax youngster will hope to make that position his own up front.
Lasse Schone – Another of Ajax’s Danish contingent, the midfielder’s creativity and passing will be key without Christian Eriksen.
Simon Kjaer – The experienced captain is comfortably the most-capped player in the squad, and he will lead the Danish defence.

Denmark Team Form

A draw with the Republic of Ireland means Denmark have now drawn four of their last six matches, including their World Cup second-round match against Croatia, which ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat. The friendly loss to Slovakia – their only defeat in 90 minutes since October 2016 – came with a scratch side made up of futsal players and amateurs with the senior team on strike. Once the payment dispute was temporarily put to the side, however, Christian Eriksen’s double against Wales got the Danes back to winning ways. Without Eriksen they could not break Republic of Ireland down in last week’s goalless draw, however.

Denmark Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Austria Team News

Marko Arnautovic has withdrawn from the squad injured and, with Michael Gregoritsch already absent, Austria are a little light up front. Veteran Lugano striker Marc Janko is likely to return to the starting line-up to partner Guido Burgstaller. Austria are also without David Alaba and Stefan Lainer due to injuries, while Florian Grillitsch joins the list of players to have withdrawn from the current squad. There are five uncapped players in the squad, of which Marvin Potzmann, Gernot Trauner and Konrad Laimer are the outfield players.

Austria Key Players

Marc Janko – Back in the international fold with Austria short of options, he has scored 28 times in his 66 previous appearances for Austria.
Alessandro Schopf – Has scored two of his four international goals during his country’s resurgent run of form in the summer – the winners against both Russia and Germany.
Louis Schaub – With five goals in ten games, he remains one of the more prolific players in the current squad and again adds goals from midfield.

Austria Team Form

Austria have been inconsistent of late with three wins and two defeats in their last five games, but those two losses are their only ones since September 2017. Since losing 3-0 to Brazil in the summer, Austria have won two from three. An own goal and a David Alaba strike earned a 2-0 win against Sweden but they lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 in their first UEFA Nations League match. Last time out, however, Marko Arnautovic scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 defeat of Northern Ireland.

Austria Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-4-2

Austria got back to winning ways against Northern Ireland last time out and now, against a Denmark side missing key players like Christian Eriksen and Thomas Delaney, they will hope to continue their resurgent form - which had momentarily halted with a defeat in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The loss of Marko Arnautovic is a blow, however, and a draw - of which Denmark have had plenty lately - could be on the cards.
Austria have won six of their last seven friendly matches, with only Brazil beating them in that run - though they did also lose to Bosnia in the UEFA Nations League.
